Biography
Darkwing Duck, also known as “The Terror that Flaps in the Night” is the star of the series. His official past is unknown, as creator Tad Stones has written at least six different possible origins for the masked mallard.
What we do know is that at the beginning of the pilot episode “Darkly Dawns The Duck” our Protagonist is completely isolated, with no known family or friends. He sleeps in the day and awakes at night to fight small-time criminals.
While dealing with the notorious felon Taurus Bulba, Darkwing rescues 9-year old Orphan Gosalyn Waddleymeyer. The entire backbone of the series is based on his relationship with Gosalyn, who he adopts as his own daughter.
He also acquires a side-kick named Launchpad McQuack, a former employee of Scrooge McDuck. Later on he meets and falls in love with the criminal sorceress Morgana Macawber and rivals with Duckburg’s hometown hero Gizmoduck. On occasion he is hired by the secret agency S.H.U.S.H to assist on top-secret missions, usually dealing with the criminal organization F.O.W.L.
Darkwing has no special abilities to speak of unless you count his ability to speak in Alliteration. His main weapon of choice is his gas gun which fires off rounds of various substances such as itching powder, sleep powder, laughing gas, or just your regular run-of-the-mill blue gas. He is trained in the art of Quack-Fu and has a high tolerance for pain. More often than not it’s his intelligence and dumb luck that keeps him alive. He also has an ego the size of a dump truck… maybe bigger. He doesn’t fight crime selflessly but also for the recognition and glory that comes with being a hero. Despite his selfish desires he is still a kind-hearted, if not eccentric kind of guy.
When Darkwing isn’t wearing the mask he’s living on 537 Avian Way under the secret identity of Drake Mallard where he cares for Gosalyn and puts up with his annoying (but oh so hilarious) neighbours the Muddlefoots.
