Biography
The most unexpected (and probably the coolest) antagonist of them all is Darkwing himself. Darkwarrior Duck is essentially an alternate timeline version of Darkwing Duck that appears in a single episode, “Time and Punishment”. When Gosalyn accidentally gets caught up in Megavolt and Quackerjack’s time-top, she is dragged with them to the future (the exact time is never specified). She arrives to discover the citizens of St. Canard living under the oppressive rule of her law-obsessed father.
Gosalyn quickly discovers that her absence in present-time led Darkwing Duck to assume his daughter had run away. He fell into a deep depression, which eventually turned into manic obsession. He decided it was time to get “tougher” on crime, and began using more violent methods to wipe out St. Canard’s entire villain populace. Once he “scared every crook out of St. Canard”, he turned his attention to the innocent citizens, and began punishing them for minor infractions such as jay-walking and staying out past his imposed 9pm curfew. He overthrew the entire justice system of St. Canard and became “The Law”. He uses flying droids to keep close surveillance on the city, and the robots will often arrest and incarcerate citizens when Darkwarrior is too busy to do it himself.
Darkwarrior has isolated himself from his friends and family. He fired Launchpad because he was “too soft on crime”, particularly because Launchpad disagreed with Darkwarrior about giving crooks the electric chair before arresting them. He is thrilled with Gosalyn’s return, but quickly turns against her after she questions his deep obsession with the law. She is thrown into prison alongside Quackerjack and Megavolt. The three team up to escape, find the time-top, and return to their present time.
Despite being cold, ruthless, and unforgiving, Darkwarrior is unable to shoot Gosalyn after he corners her and threatens to “blast [her] into a smudge”. Even at his most intense, he still loves his daughter and can’t bring himself to harm her.
It is assumed that because Gosalyn returns to her regular time, the events of “Time and Punishment” are erased, and Darkwarrior ceases to exist. However, the character briefly appeared in the 2010 comic series arc “Crisis on Infinite Darkwings” as one of the alternate-dimensional versions of DW. This version has also lost his Gosalyn, although it’s implied she died tragically instead of running away.
