Real Name: Kama Zotz
Age: He’s dead. He hasn’t a real age anymore. And he can’t tell when he’s born, cause his people had no calendar.
Relationships: The Jaguar (former mate)
Super powers: Like most of his kind he can use his wings to slide, is stronger than humans/anthros and has no problems with total darkness. Since he’s a demon he can’t die again and all his injuries heal very fast. Additionally he can create his weapons, blades made of a material which looks like silver and can be as hard or soft as he wants, out of pure magic.
Weaknesses: Kama Zotz is a demon and thus bound to hell. To appear on earth he must be summoned and to stay he needs a source of magic.
Appearance: Zotz looks like an anthropomorphic bat, with black fur, but since he is not a human anthro but a gargoyle he owns bat-like wings and tail, too. He is compact and muscular and a little taller than a normal anthro. Most of the time he seems to wear a loincloth and a belt, but of course this are not really clothes but part of his afterlife-body. The belt he often uses to store his silver blades for the case he might not have the time or the magic to create new ones when needed.
Additional Information: The gargoyles are an extinct sentient and sapient species originated in south-America. Of course they got the name thousands of years after the extinction, indeed Kama Zotz and the Jaguar were the only ones ever called gargoyles, named so for the resemblance of stone-gargoyles.Personality (click to expand)
Zotz is trained leader, that makes it hard for him to accept commands from others. He’s very careful and protective (often over-protective) and can be extremely stubborn. His altruism sometimes increases to self-abandonment, and while he is soft and forgiving towards friends and allies, he can be very rigorous against enemies. He is smart, but sometimes he prefers brute force.
Biography (click to expand)
Kama Zotz was born in a clan of gargoyles in the south-American rainforest, long before the first humans/anthros reached the continent. When the clan’s leader retired, he chose Zotz as his successor and Zotz made his mate, the Jaguar, his second in command. When Quackzycotl created the Wooden People, human-like creatures made of wood and without a visible face, the Jaguar saw the danger first. Indeed the Wooden People claimed all the land they saw, felled the trees and banished animals and gargoyles. The gargoyles tried to fight them, but the wooden people were more and accreted faster. They asked the gods for help, but Quackzycotl wanted to say if his creation will be successful in claiming the full continent, so he had forbidden the gods to interact with them or the gargoyles.
Only the god of netherworld, who would, thousands of years later, take the name Beelzebub, didn’t care about Quackzycotl and offered Zotz and the Jaguar the power to fight the Wooden People in exchange for their souls. Cause he considered his own soul less important than the his clan’s life, Zotz accepted and to be with his mate, the Jaguar did the same. The lord of netherworld increased their strength, made them fast enough to be at several locations seemingly the same time, gave them an aura causing fear and a breath of fire, as well as the silver blades Zotz uses today.
They succeeded in fighting the Wooden People and saving their clan’s territory, but the Jaguar wanted more. He attacked the Wooden People’s Villages burned them down and killed every of the creatures he saw. Zotz tried to stop him, but failed and finally the Wooden People were completely extinct. Quackzycotl was angry and tried to punish both, Zotz and the Jaguar but they were strong enough to even fight him. They died, eventually, but Quackzycotl lost an eye and the lord of netherworld took it, as he had planned from beginning.
((Here indeed Zotz’s Biography ends, what comes now you might call a thanatography.))
In the nether world that was not yet called hell these days but was hell in every meaning the dead gargoyles became demons and were allowed to keep one of the powers which were granted them in life. Zotz chose the silver blades, the Jaguar the fire breath. They fought for the lord of netherworld in several battles against other lords, ruling other parts of the netherworld which belong to other universe-triads. This battles were painful, but, since all the fighters were already dead, not dangerous, and for the same reason they were completely senseless, cause nobody could ever win.
When Zotz realized that he never liked this kind of fighting, especially without purpose, he asked himself why he was doing this and found out that as a demon he was under total control of Beelzebub. Knowing this he was able to free himself. When he tried to free the Jaguar, he had to learn that his former mate liked the eternal battles and wanted to serve Beelzebub, as he was called now.
Kama Zotz tried to free other demons, but most of them loved the fight too or were just to arrogant to believe that Beelzebub had them under control.
But there were others in hell, called the Doomed Ones. They sold their souls to Beelzebub but didn’t have the mental strength to be a demon. They worked in the Forges, producing weapons for the senseless war or were just punished for angering Beelzebub when they were alive. There were even some, who could have been demons, but didn’t want, cause they didn’t trust Beelzebub and only made a deal with him to protect others. All the Doomed Ones who were in hell for altruistic reasons Zotz could free and soon he was famous as the Rebel Demon leader of a Group of free Doomed Ones, searching a way out of hell. Deep in hell, far from Beelzebub’s territory, they found it. The Burning Tree, a deity itself, was a way out of hell, but nobody could say, where it led.
Nonetheless many of the doomed ones used it to flee and while the centuries went by, the group of free Doomed Ones was exchanged completely, several times, with the exception of Kama Zotz who stayed to free other. Of course Beelzebub didn’t like this, so he sent the Jaguar after Zotz and the two fought several times. Very rarely it happened, that living persons came to hell through magic, to save beloved souls or other living travelers. Zotz learned that the living could use the Burning Tree as a way to wherever they wanted to be. One day, one of the living travelers was a girl named Gosalyn Mallard, who wanted to save the soul of an alternative version of her father (something about time-travelling, Zotz didn t understand). He was able to help her. Since she now knows his name and appearance she only need someone who knows to summon demons to call after him for help. And when Reginald Bushroot accidentally reanimated the Wooden People, this help was needed.
