Super powers: Medusa I was a monster, so she was able to use magic without any devices, but she wasn t very skilled. Her best spell was a petrifying curse she could use on enemies. She could fly and see heat and her snakes could survive without the rest of her, but fell into hibernation. Additionally she could summon The Snakespawn and after making them her familiars they came to her by themselves.
Medusa II is mostly hidden into her host but she is able to take over and put Jens mind to sleep. Her powers are weaker than Medus I s were, because she inhabits a normal s body. Only in special nights when there is enough magic floating, her magical aura is strong enough The Snakespawn finds her. They seem to be not sure if she is indeed Medusa so she has problems to control them when she does not use a formula from The Book of Worlds the villain Flammar gave to her. Only in this nights she is able to get wings and fly and to use the only spell the snakes remember from the first Medusa, the petrifying curse, even if it does not last longer than a few hours.
Medusa III is build with some wires made of manain what allows her to use the weaker petrifaction spell whenever she wants. Her skin is made of a bulletproof alloy and she owns several weapons inside her body. Like Medusa I she can fly and sense heat. The Snakespawn seems not to find her but she never tried to summon them.
Weaknesses: Medusa I could be normally injured and Medusa II would have died with her host if Jen would have been injured. Medusa III can be rebuilt but of course it is possible to destroy her artificial brain or the snakes. Medusa II cannot take over as long as Jen wears the Rainbow Necklace (but since Jen does not know the necklace is anything special that isn t that much of a problem). Medusa III can be attacked by a computer virus when she opens her systems and when her skin is opened or perforated water or other liquids can cause a short.
Appearance: Medusa I was mostly an anthro duck but with pointy teeth, yellow eyes with the pupils of a viper, leathery wings and green snakes instead of hair. Medusa II has Jen Xianpu s body but the snakes, her old eyes, the face of a cat that seems to try to look like a snake s one and, when there is enough magic, the leathery wings. Medusa III resembles the original Medusa but is obviously made of a silver metal. Her wings have a different shape than the original one s wings since she now flies with small jet engines. The snakes are still biological but armored with the same alloy her shell is made of. Since she was built anatomically correct she has to wear clothes and chose a green bathing suit. The lonely had was grayish but you could see the original colours.
The Snakespawn: The Snakespawn is a pack of transdimensional snakelike beings that can be summoned. Most of them are giant black snakes, some are red with black thorn growing on their sides. One resembles a cobra as well as a scorpion and is called Krylock (as seen in Disney s American Dragon: Jake Long ). They are predators without much intelligence but they feel familiar with Medusa and so serve as her familiars.
Personality (click to expand)
We don’t know much about Medusa I but it seems she was a very peaceful monster, at lat more than her sisters. Medusa II and III are mainly fragments of Medusa I mixed with a little personality of the host. Medusa II is very single minded. The snakes remember that the first Medusa was pregnant when she was beheaded by a normal would-be-hero, so Medusa II believes the child died and holds an irrational hatred against normals. She is mostly angry and aggressive but can be calm and manipulative when amongst monsters. There are few moments when she does not think about how to get rid of the normals most effectively and in these moments she usually enjoys something or is distracted by something that touches another remembrance the snakes conserved.
Since Medusa III’s brain is a learning computer and she knows the child had survived she develops an own personality. She still isn’t ready so she can change rapidly, but she seems to become a very frisky but nonetheless caring character. A pre-installed program keeps her back from hurting innocents or their rights and she seems to have no problem with this.
Biography (click to expand)
Medusa I lived in ancient Europe north from Greece, indeed not far from the region that is Transylvania today. She lived in a cave with her sisters and tried to hide from the normals. That worked more or less but she could not hide from the gods. They always had a special interest in monsters and indeed Poseidon fell for the young monster girl with the interesting hair.
Of course she couldn’t repel a god and indeed she did not want to. When she was pregnant a normal who wanted to prove his heroism attacked her. Using a polished buckler he shielded himself from her spells and beheaded her before the Snakespawn could arrive. He took her head as a trophy and left. When Poseidon found the body he came right in time to save the unborn child.
The following events are spoilers to the (nearly unwritten) story arc Magic Arrows:
The head went through many hands and finally was bought by the university of Tri-City. There it was stolen by the Phantom Blot who wanted to fuse it with a robot. When the Quiverwing Quack and Black Spandex interrupted him the head was accidentally fused with Jen and Medusa II was created.
She did awake first a little later and immediately began her plan. She forged an alliance with the monster Flammar who claimed to want wipe out the normals too but the final plan backfired and Flammar vanished. Medusa hid inside her host to take over only a few occasions. When Jen went to the Negaverse there was more magic but Jen used to wear the Rainbow Necklace now and so Medusa couldn’t use it.
When Pegasos visited Tri-City in the Negaverse and Medusa learned he was her (or, to be accurate, the original Medusa s) son she changed her mind (as mentioned she nearly always thought about one thing, so when she wanted to reveal herself to Pegasos she forgot about her hatred completely. With all the power she could get she was able to take over and force Jen to put away the necklace. She finally allowed Gyro DeSpell to separate her from Jen and fuse the snakes with a robot he built.
Since Medusa III was one of the few beings capable of crime fighting and due to her programming completely trustworthy, president Magica DeSpell decided to let her join the protectors of Tri-City.
