      Aziraphale

There were many ways this information could be received. A typical angel might vow vengeance upon the black hearted spouse who had forged such a foul contract. Might declare his assistance in finding the beast who held the contract and rend it in half with divine fury. This was heroic work. A true test of the balance of good and evil, something that could start a holy war perhaps. A typical angel would be motivated to Right this Dire Wrong.

Aziraphale nearly inhaled a piece of sashimi and started choking.

"A free reign demon?" He coughed, eyes watering. "Is there such a thing? But where does her..." Well Melantha wouldn't know where her powers came from if she even had powers at all. He pounded on his chest slightly to dislodge the obstruction and stared off into space with a shudder at the thought. Ah but... there was more to it than that, he reached across the table and patted her hand lightly as if she'd just lost her favorite pair of earrings instead of her first born child.

"...that was very noble of you. I am sorry that your husband did such a low and frankly evil thing. You seem a very kind woman, I have to imagine he wasn't always so wicked? Perhaps he was possessed and that was what prompted this bargain? Yes because if the father was possessed at the time of signing surely that would invalidate any legality to the contract?"

"Oh not a worry at all!" Melantha smiled graciously. She glanced around at her surroundings before taking a long, soothing sip of her tea. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the feeling of having a real drink for the first time in ages.

"The conditions..." She considered carefully. "Well it was my husband that brokered the initial contract. He sacrificed our first born child - that's my daughter - in exchange for immortality. This was done without my knowledge, for if I had known I absolutely would have put a stop to it. But the damage was done, and I didn't realize what had happened until she hatched..."

She stared down at the liquid swirling in her cup. "She was born a demon, as a result. And he... he came to claim her. So I begged him to take me instead. The agreement was that my daughter would live - a free unbound soul - while I took her spot in Hell. As long as she remains in the mortal world, I must remain in Hell. That was the agreement."

Pausing to look up at him. "Oh pardon me, I didn't introduce myself, did I? My name is Melantha Moonbeam. It's a pleasure to meet you."

          Aziraphale

Aziraphale listened to the woman's tale of self sacrifice with an open look of concern.

Because of the sad situation surely? Well yes it was truly disturbing. But this was also way over his paygrade. Deals with Beelzebub and one life for another, while all too common were not normally hurdles the angel found himself running face first into (jumping would have been preferable but he was quite out of shape these days)... even in the 'good old days'. Mostly he was wondering what he could do to send her off in the direction of someone who could help her.

...only one name came to mind, but asking *him* to do such a selfless GOOD deed? It's likely Crowley would never speak to him again. And that would never do.

And then she had to go and give him the puppy dog eyes. The 'trapped in an infernal prison and jabbed with pitchforks for Heaven knows how long' puppy dog eyes and he made a miserable little noise at the back of his throat and patted her hand.

"Come with me." He said in resignation and before too long they were seated in a dark little corner of a sushi restaurant, a colorful spread between them and tea steaming in neat little cups at their fingertips.

"Can you tell me, what exactly the conditions of the agreement was? There might be a loophole. I have a little experience with loopholes-" He'd been swinging through one or another for nearly 6,000 years. "-perhaps we can devise a way to force the Deceiver's hand and return both you and your poor child to the surface."

Suddenly horrified he stared at her wide eyed.

"I am dreadfully sorry, quite forgot my manners, what is your name?"

Melantha's eyes brightened. "I suppose a meal would be nice." She said. "And thank you for your concern... it's a bit complicated but I went to the Underworld on my own volition. I just wanted to give my daughter a chance at life, and that required a contractual obligation to Beelzebub."

She stared at the ground momentarily as she contemplated the situation. "I suddenly found myself up here in the mortal plane again. And if I'm here, that means my daughter is..." Glancing back up at Az with those infinite orbs (her eyes that is), full of worry.

"Something has happened to her, I just know it."

Perfectly normal or not the stranger eyed her a little suspiciously.

"Surely you're not at all that wicked that you belong in the sulfur pits for eternity?" But was it her afterlife she was talking about, no no she certainly did smell of The Pit. It put his teeth on edge, it was a smell he wouldn't soon forget. "Let's," He offered his hand to her. "Let's get you cleaned up and I would like very much to hear all about it. My name is Aziraphale, and I won't hurt you if that is a concern. " And as if he had concerns of his own. "I can treat you to a meal? I imagine it has been a while since you've partaken in Earthly sustenance."

"Oh! You know of us!" Her expression brightened. "Yes, I'm a sorceress. I'm from Transylvania, actually. But I ended up in your city under unusual circumstances. To be honest I've never really walked among Normals before... at least not this...

The healer spun around and her expression softened immediately. "Oh, thank Heavens!" She said with relief. "I am indeed. And so is my daughter, I suspect. This is not where I should be, I belong down in Hell." She explained, as though this were a...

She let out a squeak of surprise and slowly crawled out of the dumpster to brush herself off. Normals have such the strangest rituals. But it was fun nonetheless. She removed a banana peel from her shoulder and wandered off, onward to her next...

Her hair was surprisingly wild and untamed when not contained with a braid. The way it bounced over her shoulders and trailed down to her waist seemed awfully familiar. Not that Negaduck was a professional in hair identification, except perhaps for...
