Potsherds (Harmonizer and OC rp)

(OOC: I'm blank on ideas so this is kind of a "get to know you" rp, I suppose? Send me a message if you have an idea for making it more interesting. XD )

Not long after Jab Specks, Raindrop, Six, and Harou left the proximity of the building the robbery and explosion had taken place in, the pottery store owner arrived with a bag of groceries. Seeing the damage, a puppy like whimper escaped her. As wolf took in the sight of the overturned craft table and shelves and the debris on the floor, she shook her head.

"No... No. Please be a hallucination. I have to make a payment this week! What am I going to do?"
Tempest ran blindly toward the back room but her foot caught on a piece of shelving, sending her to her knees.

"Ah!" She yelped.

Scrambling back up, she limped to the room and rummaged for the firebox that contained her rental agreement and other important documents, seeing that damage caused from break-ins and super villain activity was not covered in the warranty, she sobbed, sinking back onto the floor. She didn't even notice that her leg had sustained a cut from her fall.

A rough looking fellow peered in through the open shop door. Hearing muffled sobs coming from the back room, the rat went inside, closing the door behind him. Misery loves company, as the saying goes, and Tempest's day was about to get worse.

      Harmonizer

Harmonizer had been somewhere far off, just finished dealing with a bunch of criminals. Nothing too big, just thugs stealing metal pipes right off the buildings.

Just when she thought she was done for the day, she caught a sound of distress, followed by crying. The person sounded like she was in trouble, and seemed so sad...

Quickly, she got over to the source of the crying as fast as she could, soon arriving at the pottery shop.

What a mess... looks like she'd missed out on the fun. On the other hand, that explained the boom she'd heard earlier.

Swinging the shop door open, she peeked in. "'Ello?" Then, she entered. Hearing the sobbing come from the backroom, she walked in hesitantly, avoiding the broken clay.

The thug backed away from the door when someone came in, standing still and holding his breath. He thought he would be able to go undetected, but he had no idea the caped hero in front of him had super hearing.

The distraught wolf mopped at her eyes and tried to stand. "Dang it." She blinked and stared in surprise. "Who are you?"

        • Harmonizer
          Harmonizer

Harmonizer glanced at the thug, raising a brow, then nodded at him.

She then turned to the wolf in the back room, offering her a hand to help her up, noticing she had a cut on her leg. "Ees something ze matter?" she asked in concern. Because the destruction caused to the building, and all the damaged pottery, were not painfully obvious.

Tempest flattened her ears and stared in confusion at Harmonizer. Who are you? Captain Oblivious?

Stubbornly wiping her eyes again, she accepted the hand up.

"I'm supposed to pay rent this month. How am I supposed to do that with this?" She staggered back and pointed angrily at the shattered wall.

"If I'm reading this right-" she irritably kicked the box with the rental agreements and such in it. "-Then damage from a break-in is not covered in the rental insurance."

The ruffian decided it wasn't worth messing with two people in a messed up pottery place so he slipped back out the door and walked off. There wasn't anything good to steal anyway.

            • Harmonizer
              Harmonizer

Harmonizer looked at the wolf, feeling increasingly concerned. Oh... it was that bad.

Reaching out, she patted the woman gently. Harmonizer wasn't sure if the shop owner wanted comfort or not, but it was there if she needed it.

She glanced at the box with the rental agreements in it, then frowned a little.

"Do you 'ave ze security cameras for ze break een?" she ultimately asked. "I could 'elp find those people and make them pay you back," she told her. Or... she could go find the dumb landlord or whoever they were and demand why there wasn't insurance covered for supervillain attacks, in a freaking city filled with criminals everywhere.

"Does this look like a shop someone would break into?" Tempest's lip quivered, "The most valuable thing in here is the kiln and it is older than me."

She sighed and shook her head. "Sorry... no, there aren't any security cameras inside. There might be one on the outside of the building but you would have to talk to the landlord about it."

                • Harmonizer
                  Harmonizer

Harmonizer shrugged. "There are nice pots," she said mildly, then looked around. Since there weren't surveillance cameras, she would have to look for clues.

First, she got the wolf to sit down and spotted the first-aid kit, handing it to her. She would probably know how to apply it to her leg injury.

She noticed puddles of water around the store, along with strands of yellow fur, most of them in the water. It was as if the person had been just out of the shower when he... or she, robbed the place. If it wasn't for her noticing some of the fur were dry, especially by the back room, anyway. That meant two people had wrecked the shop... but then she spotted new evidence. By the wall of the explosion was a small, black feather.

"One of ze suspects 'as golden fur," she told the wolf. "Ze other apparently walks around een water... and I know two who do zat... third is someone small with a black feather," she said. "Now, eef you would show me to your landlord, I'll get 'im to show me ze surveillance cameras."

Tempest took care of her scratch while Harmonizer conducted her examination of the scene of the crime.

"Hugo should be home. I'll try calling him first.  Who are you? Are you a police consultant?" She asked. "For that matter, where are the police? Why isn't anyone else here? Were there explosions in other parts of town today?"

The wolf paused when Harmonizer identified some hair. "Golden fur? May I see that? If the robber came here for something in particular, maybe I know him or her."  She sniffed but she couldn't smell much after her crying.

                      Harmonizer

That was when Harmonizer realised she hadn't introduced herself yet. While she wasn't big on flashy entrances like a certain hero, she liked introductions. It could go a long way.

"I'm Harmonizer, travelling rogue 'ero," she said, sweeping her a small bow. "'Ere to 'elp you. What's your name?"

She let her try to sniff out the fur if it was anyone she knew, and stared at the feather for a moment, leaning against the counter. What would a child be doing, blowing up the wall?

"Rogue hero? Does that mean you just happen to be traveling through town?" The wolf studied the shorter duck curiously.  She shook her head again at herself. "Agh. I'm sorry about all the questions. I'm Tempest Loupnoir. Thank you for coming in to help me. Excuse me..."

Tempest plucked a tissue from a delicate looking painted ceramic tissue box holder and stepped into the restroom to blow her nose and wash up a little.  When she returned, she no longer had tear stains in her fur, and her eyes were clear and focused.

"Alright. I'm calling Hugo. Should I call the police too? And my bank. Maybe they'll give me another loan." She winced at the thought.

As she waited for the landlord to answer, she studied the hair more closely.  "A black tip... Whoever it is has gold and black hair..." She sniffed at it carefully. "Definitely belongs to a man. I can smell his cologne. His cologne!" Her green-gold eyes brightened with a smile. "I recognize it! He's one of my customers. A leopard or a cheetah I think. Definitely spotted. He was dressed nicely. I loaned him an apron for my art class." Tempest pulled out a vanilla folder with a sign up sheet for her class. "His name is on this list."

Finally Hugo answered, and Harmonizer's keen hearing would easily pick up his voice.

"If this is about the explosion, I've already called the police." Hugo grumbled irritably.

"Yes, it is about the explosion and about a robbery. One of my art class students broke into my shop and took something out of the kiln."

"Are the police finally there? Let me talk to the detective."

"No, no one's here except a hero named Harmonizer." Tempest saw Harmonizer studying the feather. "I can try to identify something from that, too, if you want."

"Who the heck is Harmonizer?" Hugo grumped.

"Hugo, does this building have a security camera on the premises?" Tempest asked.

"Yes, but it belongs to the guy renting the space next to you. I didn't install one."

                        "Great..."

                        • Harmonizer
                          Harmonizer

"I'm... probably going to be 'ere for a while," she said, when questioned. She didn't want to leave Bushroot alone again, after so many years...

She nodded with a smile when the wolf introduced herself as Tempest, thanking her for helping. "Eet's nothing. Zat's what I do."

It was good that Tempest could identify the one of the intruders. Maybe if Harmonizer nabbed him, he would reveal the other suspects. She had two in mind already for the water around the store. No pipes burst, nor were there any leaks or rain recently... it could only be from someone literally splashing in water.

She nodded at the wolf when she offered to try to identify something from the feather. "Sure."

As she continued to observe the feather, placing it on the desk to avoid touching it further, she caught the conversation with her hearing, and listened quietly, now flipping through the manila folder.

It seemed that, if they needed to review the security tapes, they would need to find the person next door.

Once Tempest hung up, Harmonizer spoke to her. "What was 'is name?" she asked, looking down the folder, referring to the leopard/cheetah customer.

Tempest looked down the list, trying to place the names and faces.
"No... No... No... Hm. Might be this one: Jacob Wesson. I'm pretty sure he had a `J‘ in his name."

She got out a box of sandwich bags for Harmonizer to put the evidence in, using tape and a marker to label them.
She turned her attention to the little black feather, using the side of a pencil to hold it down while she sniffed at it.

"A boy?" She tilted her head in confusion. "What was a kid doing near an explosion?" She sniffed it a little longer to try to learn more about the duckling. "Smells like he's around metal a lot. There's a strong, oily, chemically, coppery scent." She chuckled. "Sorry I can't do any better than that. I don't know much about anything aside from ceramics and painting materials. I know I don't recognize him."

She bagged the feather and wandered around the shop some more.
"No blood or singed hair or feathers, so I assume no injuries from the blast. I'm not familiar with the other scents. The door handle seemed really cold when I came in. Maybe that's a clue?"

                              Harmonizer

Harmonizer looked thoughtful. No one was hurt during the explosion. The feather apparently belonged to a young boy, who'd been around metal a lot.

Her brow furrowed in concentration as she tried putting two and two together. The most likely theory formed, and she saw the picture clearly.

"I think your shop 'ad been robbed twice," she told the wolf. "First, ze culprit with ze golden fur breaks in from back door, along with another person who walks around een water. Whether they are accomplices or rivals I do not know, but probably een ze middle of ze robbery, black-feathered kid blows up part of ze wall to get at something."

She glanced out of the shop for a moment. "May I please see ze suveillance tape, wherever eet ees? Zis might 'ave 'appened a while ago."

Because she remembered hearing that explosion, but she didn't tell her that.

"I don't have surveillance cameras here," Tempest lowered her ears. "There's nothing to steal except maybe a two hundred dollars a week if I'm lucky, and some glazes, paint, Terra cotta, Plaster of Paris, and a few minerals for mixing colors. You can ask my neighbor if his camera picked up anything. I don't know how else I can help you." She sighed, feeling useless and alone again.

She looked at the damage again, wondering if she should start cleaning up or wait and see if St. Canard's finest ever did show up to document the scene. She should probably take pictures for her own insurance claim. She didn't have personal property insurance but she could talk to her banker about her options.

((OOC: Should we ask Six to play the neighbor? I'm running out of ideas. XD ))

She wrote a note and left it where the police would see if and when they show up and made sure she had her cellphone on.

She went up to the door, raised her hand...and froze. A ball of nerves clenched her stomach.
"Um... Maybe you should talk to him..." The wolf backed away, flattening her ears shyly. "I...don't feel so well."

While he should report the theft to the police, he didn't want to expose the nature of the contents of the safe that had been taken. Illegal contents. But the fact they were stolen must mean someone was possibly aware of what they were. Although, it was confusing that it was a child that did it.

"What?" He hissed when he heard someone at the door.

Tempest reluctantly followed Harmonizer inside, even though she had not been specifically invited. She looked uneasily at her neighbor and at the hole in their shared wall.

"I told you everything I could think of... I don't think I can be much more help."

She paused and turned in a different direction as her nose picked up the kid's scent.

"Weird. He came back this way. Whatever scared the thief out of my store must have chased the kid through here. Did he damage anything else besides the safe and our stores?" Tempest asked the feline.
