The Forgotten Pt 2 (MA)

(( OOC: Continuing on, the group disbands to do more intel gathering and to prepare themselves for round two. Reserved at this time for Quiverwing, Piper, and Jacob. ))

The information Jacob would be able to gather from the specimen would be undeniably valuable. Only one company had been fiddling with the technology needed to make transdermal drugs that was not a government agency. The patch they had nicked used a special chemical synthesis known only by one science department, Glomgold Industries. So it was, on face level, a privatized endeavor.

For what, was the question.

That particular answer would not be found in the chemical make up of the ketamine.

Piper was not able to recall anything despite hearing her attackers voice. She did, however, snort and giggle at Drake’ cursing. Nor was anything jogged by the pictures. So while they had some direction, it was not enough to go rushing in. They needed more time to slip in.

For nearly a week there was a stand still as Piper worked on her disguise and shifted through reports to pin point which club would be next. It was getting harder as the disappearances were no longer front line news. It seemed the police were not fans of daily reminders of their failures.

She sent her thoughts to Jacob, and Drake in s group text.
“‘I think our best bet is the ‘Violet Clover’, ‘Aces High’, or ‘Mickey’s’. Aces was the last one, but it is a gambling bar. You need to place bets to get in.”

Aces it is, then.  Jacob responded.  Unless Drake objects?

      • Quiverwing Duck
        Quiverwing Duck

No objections. Not that it will change my mind but is it legal/illegal? Drake texted in response.

A moment later, there was a text consisting of some flower and heart emojis.

Then, Sorry. Please disregard that, my daughter was 'helping'.

        • Piper/ Jade
          Piper/ Jade

Her text came back with flowers hearts and thumbs up. She was a fan of emoji bedazzling.

Both, but I am going to assume it is the illegal crowd we want in with.

Should we meet like last time? Get outfitted?

Then she sent a personal text to Jacob only. We should talk too. He'd sent her a very mixed signal the last time this had gone down, and she wanted to make sure that he was okay with this.

Jacob subtly rolled his eyes at the overuse of emojis, but he was smiling.

We should.  Get a solid plan together.  Same place?

Then to Piper after a slight cringe, because that phrase was rarely good:

            All right.  When?

            • Quiverwing Duck
              Quiverwing Duck

Please let me know when. I will be there at the appointed time. Drake's response to the group text was a bit more formal, to compensate for those glittering cute emojis a few lines up.

              • Piper/ Jade
                Piper/ Jade

Piper smiled lightly to her phone. They were both coming across so seriously.

This weekend. Same place. She figured it would give Drake a chance to find a sitter. Of course, secretly, she wouldn't mind having the little girl tag along either.

Then to Jacob, she texted, My place, tonight if you are free?

                  DarkwingPsycho

Jacob didn't respond further to the group conversation, seeing no need.  Instead, he texted back Piper.

                  I'll move some things around...

Which was generally his version of coyly saying, yes.  I'll be there.

                  • Piper/ Jade
                    Piper/ Jade

                    Smirk.

                    I'll have the bourbon ready.

To be fair... the bourbon was always ready.

Plan set in motion. Piper set about getting things ready. She had to get a fake ID going, and do some research on poker techniques. She had no clue how to play. It would pass the time until Jacob showed up. She intently watched several ducktube videos to figure out the proper behaviors... she'd have to work on a game face.

It was around 7:30 that there was the familiar lop-sided step outside of her door, then a knock since he knew she was home.

When she opened the door, he smiled fondly at her and crossed the threshold to perform his usual ritual of taking off his suit jacket and shoes, then resting his cane against the doorframe.

"Busy day, little duck?" he asked lightly.

                      • Piper/ Jade
                        Piper/ Jade

"You could say that." She said. Her hair was hidden under a wrapped towel. "Been studying up on poker and the likes... figure I should know something about gambling."

What she had learned was that she should have lots of money to start with.

Without asking, she poured him a drink, and continued on. "I don't know how well you's do..." her brow perked. He seemed like the kind who could easily walk into a casino, lose everything, and nobody would be the wiser. "But you're probably a card counter." she teased. He was smart, and she knew it... he likely had a few tricks up his sleeves.

"But I was wondering if you were okay for this. You... admittedly had a hard time last time." She held the glass out to him, looking up at him with a worried expression. She didn't want him getting hurt... and she knew herself well enough to know that her second charge was going to be even stronger.

Because to her, it was now or never.

                        • DarkwingPsycho
                          DarkwingPsycho

He nodded with a smirk.  She must have just gotten out of the shower not too long ago.  "It might behoove us to prepare you a little bit for that...  I'm a decent gambler, but if you want a winner you should meet a rather ridiculously lucky friend of mine."

He took the drink gratefully and gave her a nod of acknowledgement before taking a mouthful.  Once he'd swallowed he raised a brow.  "Yes...last time was rather difficult, but I don't think I was prepared for the severity of the situation combined with being far away from you.  It was a mistake to send Drake with you, I see that now.  He's a good kid, but he's right - he'd do better in the wings."

                          • Piper/ Jade
                            Piper/ Jade

Piper shrugged lightly. She was letting it go. Yes, she was frustrated but there was no undoing what was done. She didn't hold Drake responsible.

"I could retire from crime and be a professional poker player!" she said, inviting him into the living room to sit down. "So... I guess the question is, are you planning to take his spot? Try to get in by being the bad guy?" she tilted her head at him. "Gonna grab me and tie me up?" she asked, grinning at him.

It was a joke, but it was also a very serious question. She needed to know what to expect so she could prepare herself to not look to Jacob in a way that would blow their cover. It would also mean they would have to get in at different times... and somehow manage to be in the same place at the same time.

Lots of things to work out... all of which could be ironed out once they were all together. For now, she just needed a loose agenda.

                            • DarkwingPsycho
                              DarkwingPsycho

He chuckled at her statement and sat down next to her, resting his arm along the back of the sofa.  "I thought about that, but it didn't seem to work very well last time, and it would probably look suspicious of another man attempted the same tactic in as many weeks."

He gave her a sideways glance that was extremely suggestive.  "But I'll tie you up whenever you'd like..." he rumbled.

Then he became serious again.  "Actually I was hoping you'd have some insight into that, having done more research into this than either Drake or myself.  This is your scheme...I'd just as soon not botch it again.  If I need to, I'll take your lead.  That was our mistake last time."

                              • Piper/ Jade
                                Piper/ Jade

She leaned back, looking up at the ceiling for a moment. "You could play the overprotective partner and get drugged too." That seemed like a very... logical. "Don't get aggressive, but refuse to let go?"

"Or convince them you're wealthy and that you'll pay whatever? Something to make you appeasing. Not that you aren't already." she reached over to tickle his chin lightly. Piper smiled, "A dual kidnapping. You can even give them Drake's number so they can call and set a ransom..."

She sat up. "It would make sense... a couple of rich, pompous gamblers going into the slum to test their mettle.. " wait, who was pompous? "What do you think?"

                                • DarkwingPsycho
                                  DarkwingPsycho

"Ah."  He nodded, mulling it over.  It wouldn't be too hard.  Jacob actually was wealthy...and pompous.  "It's a stretch...but I think I could handle that."  He smirked and leaned over to kiss her cheek.  "So you're going to draw their attention by playing their game, and I'll be your lucky charm?"

                                  • Piper/ Jade
                                    Piper/ Jade

"My lucky charm, of course." she said with a smirk. "And look..."

She pulled the towel off her head and shook out her, now platinum, blonde hair. It was clear, even damp, that she'd gotten some blunt bangs cut as well. "My disguise!" from nowhere, she whipped out a pair of black rimmed classes and put them onto her face. The lenses had no prescription in them, but it did help to mask some of her features.

"Good enough? I was thinking of contacts to change my eye color too. Just to be sure."

                                    • DarkwingPsycho
                                      DarkwingPsycho

He watched her toss her hair, and raised his eyebrows at the color.  "Hmmm...well it certainly is..." then came the glasses, "...different."  He set down the bourbon and cupped her cheek, his voice tainted with an amorous undertone.  "Your eyes look just fine with those on...c'mere..."

He pulled her forward and kissed her slowly.

                                      • Piper/ Jade
                                        Piper/ Jade

"Oh?" she blinked, but before she could go on about how she was thinking of a nice soft brown, he had pulled her forward and distracted her from all her plotting with a kiss.

Piper closed her eyes for a moment, enjoying the attention he was giving her. There hadn't been much between them, again...at least not since she had left his house. So she was going to greedily take what he had to offer now.

Unfortunately, she reminded herself, there was still some work to do. When he pulled back to breathe, she gave him a dreamy little look. "I take it you approve then...?" she asked, smoothing her hand over his shirt.

Of course he did. Who could resist her when she was looking up at him so cutely over those black rims?

"You could be my bank roller too." she added with a chuckle. It was really hard to keep on task when she had missed him as much as she did over the last few months.

                                        • DarkwingPsycho
                                          DarkwingPsycho

"What gave you that impression?" he replied smoothly, then kissed her forehead.  "Whatever you think would be more believable.  I'll be your sugar daddy, sure...whatever you need."  He kissed her other cheek, then just beneath her jawline against her neck.

                                          • Piper/ Jade
                                            Piper/ Jade

Piper laughed and tipped her head back-- she didn't want to work when he was being so affectionate. "A sugar daddy, hm?" she asked, looking down at him as best she could. "Whatever I need?" she echoed, her arms wrapping around his shoulders.

That was a pretty vague statement. She could get into a lot of trouble with some of her suggestions. "You spoil me." she accused, running her fingers through his slicked back head feathers. "So... what do you know about poker?" she asked, kissing his cheek lightly.

                                            • DarkwingPsycho
                                              DarkwingPsycho

He pulled back only to give her a mischievous smirk.  "Well...let me show you."  He ducked below her arms and then stood up, picking her up with him over his shoulder.  "Let's go find the classroom..."  He gave her a playful swat on her behind and made off with her to the bedroom.

                                              ***

The weekend came, and the three of them found themselves in the same booth of the distillery.  Once they'd all ordered, Jacob leaned back against the booth and waited for Piper to take the lead.

                                              • Piper/ Jade
                                                Piper/ Jade

Piper sipped for a moment, enjoying her drink before launching into her plan. Her hair had settled from it's make-over, and was now a lovely, sleek and silky mass that was piled in a bun at the top of her head.

"So." she said with a smile. "The plan is actually pretty simple... and truthful." because it was. "The plan is, that we..." a motion to Jacob, "Will be posing as a couple of wealthy gamblers. Well... I will be the gambler. Jacob will be the funds. The idea is to get their attention with the high bets-- and with any luck, I will win." because, maybe she was lucky?

"And if not, that is okay too. The idea is to become a target again. When they go to take me, Jacob will step in to try and barter my way out. The hope is, they won't ignore his money. Optimally, they will kidnap us both and try to ransom us." she motioned to Drake. "You, sir, will be the one they contact with demands."

                                                A pause.

"At least that is the goal. Any input is appreciated. I am assuming that they aren't going to hesitate to capitalize on the opportunity to kidnap someone and get some ransom out of the deal." To be fair, that was a large leap of faith... she was really hoping their greed would be their downfall, She pulled out her glasses and set them on the table. "I am hoping that we can fit these with a pinpoint camera. THat way you can let me know who is who... if the people you ran into before are even skulking around."

                                                • Quiverwing Duck
                                                  Quiverwing Duck

Listening to Piper lay out her plan, Drake just nodded slowly. He did, however, offer a comment when she noted that Jacob would be posing as the provider of wealth. "Ah, your sugar daddy." Then he immediately wished he had not because it forced him to cough rather than emit an oh no why did I say that laugh. Deadpan, he took a long drink from his bourbon instead, and remained silent until she was done.

"Okay, although what's the plan if they don't want to go with a ransom? I know we can't plan for every eventuality, but a couple of contingency plans would be good."

                                                  • DarkwingPsycho
                                                    DarkwingPsycho

"Of a sort," Jacob said with a hint of warning, but his eyes were smiling.

"I can take care of the camera in the glasses and whatever other tech would be useful.  If they don't bite on the ransom and refuse to take me, I can make certain assurances about my status in the criminal underground slash legitimate business realm.  I might have been out of the game for a while, but my name still holds some weight.  And if it's Glomgold that's truly at the head of this thing, I can allude to some ties with Scrooge McDuck.  That ought to at least get his attention."

                                                    • Piper/ Jade
                                                      Piper/ Jade

Piper was fine with that. Then added, "And, if they don't go for ransom, then we're still kidnapped. Or at least one of us is. So it would be the same situation as before." Plan A was now plan B.

"Obviously if their final solution is a bullet to the head, then we abort..." she shrugged. "Otherwise so long as we can figure out the where, why, and who-- we're in business." Thinking on it that way, Piper was kind of glad that Drake's position in the operation had been switched. He had a kid at home.

"The struggle will be the drugging part." she was pretty sure they weren't going to just take them without any form of subduing. Sipping her bourbon, she thought on that. There really wasn't any protection against it...
