I have updated the site rules, so please go read them! Pretty much everyone is following them but I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention anyhow (and so you can appreciate my little animated icons).

Giving Love A Bad Name

There was a disturbance in the air, Vincent could feel it. Looking out over the city, the cupid-dove's wings flittered softly as he tried to pinpoint the source of the aura of heartbreak.

Valentine's Day was ever nearing, and the dove knew that this city was gonna turn into his playground soon enough. He just had to strike when the time was right. And when heartbreak was in the air, there was always a chance to stir up an entertaining love triangle. Or a love square. Or a love pentagon.

With a smirk, he landed himself down on the street, tucking his wings back into his jacket, and preparing to cause some trouble in the name of Love.

      Mother Goose

Mother Goose was busy sobbing. It seemed love would never come her way. Valentine's Day was just a cruel reminder that she was pushing thirty and was still so very, very alone. The goose was draped over an old well, staring into its murky depths, tears freely rolling down her cheeks.

"I'm wishing..." she sniffled. "F-for the one I love... to find me... "

He didn't expect his search to lead him to a well. The sobbing woman, however, was par for the course.

With a smirk, he approached the well and leaned against it nonchalantly, taking his cigar out of his mouth to greet her. "Well, what's this? A broken heart on the day of lovers?"

Startled, Mother Goose hastily wiped the tears from her eyes.

"That's- that's none of your business," she said primly, trying to regain some dignity. It might have fooled him too, if she'd remembered to wear waterproof mascara before having a big dramatic cry. She looked like a sad, poofy panda.

Nonchalantly, he blew a puff of smoke. "And that, miss, is where you are sorely mistaken." He let his wings unfurl from hiding, and smirked. "I'm a Cupid, you know. It's only natural for me to seek out broken hearts to assist." he shrugged, trying to play the charming, useful card as soon as he could - this looked like a juicy situation all right. "And it would be shameful of me not to help out someone in your kinda distress, doll."

              A Cupid!

Wasn't that something! It was like getting her very own fairy godmother, just for love!

"Oooh," Mother Goose said in awe. "Well... I can hardly turn at that down..."

"So..." he started, extending a hand to help the poor woman up. "What seems to be the problem? A pretty thing like you, turned down? Or perhaps a confession gone wrong?" he tried to make his voice sound less like its usual abrasive self, opting instead for a soft and comforting tone.

"Oh, you know... a little of column A, a little of column B," Mother Goose said sadly, accepting the kind hand of the cupid. "It's so hard to find a good man in this awful city."

"Mm, yes..." Vincent nodded solemnly in response. "And here I thought this place was overrun with superheroes. Surely one of them would be kind enough to lend you aide?"

Mother Goose's face froze in a grimace. "Yeah... maybe not that goodie-goodie." The goose grit her teeth. "They'll do anything to trick you onto their side, I'm sick of heroes!" Maybe she should try dating bad boys. Sure, they didn't have quite the same knight-in-shining-armor appeal, but villains could be charming in their own way.

He smirked at that remark, nodding again. "Yes, heroes can be quite... frustrating. Especially when your line of work deals in crimes and what-have-you." Looking her up and down, he added; "Though it's a bit of a surprise you're not one yourself - I'd have pegged you for the ladylike type!"

Now that he mentioned it, he cursed himself mentally for not treating her with a little more respect. She seemed angry, and that was no way to get her on his side.

It was time to turn on the charm and hope she wasn't easily embittered.

"Forgive me, though - that was probably a disrespectful way to treat such a delicate angel. You couldn't possibly be a criminal now, could you?"
