In The Still Of The Night

If there was one thing that Vincent "Cardiac Arrest" had learned over his time living in St. Canard, it was that although bars tended to be dingy, loud, and full of trouble, they were also excellent hiding places - and vantage points for the chaotic cupid to seek out new victims. The crowd helped him blend in, and he was currently situated at a table farther back towards a corner, watching people with acute senses.  Tonight was just like any other night for him...

or at least, he thought it was going to be.

"Bourbon," a classy-looking older mallard said confidently to the bar tender.

While waiting for his drink, Jacob surveyed his surroundings with an analytical gaze.  It wasn't the Coatl Club, but it would do for now.  It was always good to scope out other establishments in case one heard any leads regarding certain crime lords...or interdimensional enemies.  This bar seemed to draw all kinds.  He hoped it wouldn't be a wasted trip, but the bourbon would tell him that.

        Mother Goose

A decidedly dejected-looking Mother Goose slipped into the bar, with a trench-coat thrown over her dress. Normally she preferred to drink at home, but sometimes it was nice to get out and be miserable in public... Taking a stool at the counter, she sighed and asked for her cocktail of choice. "Belle of the Ball, please. Extra whipped cream."

((OOC: Sure, go ahead! It's all fine by me.))

"Coming right up, sir, ma'am." The bartender, an anxious-looking duck with a few white markings on his hands and face, nodded to Jacob, then Mother Goose, before turning to prepare their respective drinks.

A crow in a green trench coat sat down at the far end of the bar, alone. "Just...get me a beer." 8 years, 8 long, damned years...

"Here you are!" The bartender, after a few seconds, turned to the first two customers, handing them their respective drinks. Turning to the crow, he added, "Of course."

Meanwhile, Vincent still sat in the corner, now paying close attention to the trio at the bar...

The crow took out something like an all green rubix cube. "Let's see if I can solve this one..."

The cube flashed multiple colors before changing to a puzzle such as one on a rubix cube. "Seen this one before."

Jacob nodded toward the barkeep in thanks, then took a sip of the drink.  It wasn't the best bourbon, but he wasn't really that picky.  He noticed the trenchcoat-wearing woman next to him and regarded her with placid interest.

"Rough night?" he asked, noticing her expression.

                    • Drake Mallard
                      Drake Mallard

Darkwing entered the bar, but not with his usual dramatic entrance. He was keeping a low profile.

Well, not really, considering anyone would recognize him with his costume that stood out like a sore thumb in this crowd.

He went straight to the bar to order a drink. "One Purple Rain please." He sat down and made himself comfortable.

Mother Goose nodded at the older mallard, playing with the straw in her drink. "It's the men in this town. Sure, they sweep you off your feet, but they never want to stick around after midnight!" She sniffled, thinking of all the dashing heroes only good for a quick flirt. "Is it too much to ask for a happily ever after?"

Jacob would have immediately gone to speak with Darkwing had his back not been to the caped drake, so instead he kept conversing with Mother Goose.  However this subject was not one that he was particularly suited to.  He was, after all, one of those 'dashing heroes' she was talking about.

Even so, he nodded.  "It is a rare thing, that's for certain."  He thought briefly of his late wife.  "Not easily appreciated once attained."  He eyed her then with a hint of charm in his black eyes.  "Don't waste your time on those who clearly are not in your league."

The crow pulled his hat down over his eyes.

                            • Mother Goose

There was something oddly familiar about the mallard, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. Still, he was a sweet old codger... she relaxed a little, giving him a hint of a smile. "Aww, you really think so?"

He shrugged, but his expression remained boyishly coy.  "Sure.  I can tell by looking at you there's more to you than meets the eye.  The right one'll come along and treat you the way you deserve."  He nodded toward her drink.  "What's your pleasure?"

                                • Mother Goose
                                  Mother Goose

"Oh, well," she said with a giggle. He really was charming, in that purely effortless way. If he'd been younger, she was sure she'd fall for him. "Crème de banane and chocolate vodka. Wanna sip~?"

                                  • Quiverwing Duck
                                    Quiverwing Duck

It was difficult to say when Quiverwing Duck arrived or what mode of entry he used. He just kind of turned up by Darkwing, carrying his hat in one hand, which helped to downplay its usually eye-catching plume. He's pretty sneaky for someone in such a cheery looking costume.

"Here," he said to his masked double, offering him a green thumb drive, without even a 'hello'. "This is the holy crap..." It probably was not actually that, it was just the quiet bit of mild swearing uttered by the archer just before he dropped straight down, crouching against the bar and using Darkwing for cover.

He'd recognized Mother Goose's profile at a glance, someone who would probably not be happy to see him right now.

                                    • Drake Mallard
                                      Drake Mallard

Darkwing jumped at Quiverwing's sudden appearance and nearly choked on his drink. "Geez. Don't do that!" He coughed.

He took the thumb drive and was surprised again by the other drake's odd behaviour.

"What is it? Who are you hiding from?" He asked quietly and wondered if he should duck down too. He looked around for any sign of threats but only saw his father (whom could be someone to hide from), a goose in a trench coat, a crow, and someone in a corner. It seemed like the normal patrons in this type of place.

But as a precaution his hand went to his gas gun.

                                      • Quiverwing Duck
                                        Quiverwing Duck

"No", Quiverwing whispered sharply, reaching up to quickly give Darkwing's hand a swat so he would not draw a weapon.

Poking at the air to point down the bar, he whispered, "There is a supervillain over there." Even he would admit this was insufficient data in a city like this one, so he continued, "The woman." His eyes rolled to look up and aside as he admitted. "I may have upset her a little bit, recently."

                                        • Drake Mallard
                                          Drake Mallard

"A supervillain?" Darkwing raised an eyebrow. "What did you do? Have a bad date with her?" There was a mix of teasing and concern in his voice. "Just stay low and hide by me."

Now he was on alert judging by the anxious expression on his face as he kept one eye on the goose while sipping his drink.

                                          • Harmonizer
                                            Harmonizer

Another visitor entered. She looked more wary and less eager to drink than any other person in the bar as she walked in. Places like these always made her feel uncomfortable, but someone had arranged to meet her there for information. She made sure to arrive there early in case it was a trap.

At the sight of some familiar figures, her face lit up. She quietly crept up behind Quiverwing, popped up in front of him and booped him on the bill.

                                            "Hello!!"

Then she turned to Darkwing. "'Ey, you've gotten bigger! 'Ow's zat bill of yours? Aww, who drew zat dinosaur?" she pointed at the drawing on his pink bill cast. Which seemed to sparkle with glitter as well.

                                            • Quiverwing Duck
                                              Quiverwing Duck

"It wasn't a date, it was combat," Quiverwing snapped quietly, glaring up at Darkwing. "What is that," he draws an air circle with his finger around his own face then points up at his twin. "You're going to make everyone look with that expression--"

Anyway, it was a moot point, since everyone might look over anyhow when Harmonizer showed up in such a non-quiet manner. Rather than give her a friendly greeting in response, the archer swiftly swept his leg out behind her ankles, grabbed her by the upper arms and dragged her down beside him against the bar. "I was trying to not call attention to myself, Harm," he hissed.

                                              • Vincent Piccioncino (Cardiac Arrest)
                                                Vincent Piccioncino (Cardiac Arrest)

Ah, now this was a perfect situation, Vincent thought to himself, observing the growing crowd with a smirk.  He just had to figure out how to get a shot in, and soon there'd be some entertainment. He just had to be quick about this - or find a way to get close enough to make it discreet.

Standing up and making his way over to the bar (and folding his unfortunately fluttery wings in as he did so), he took a seat between the loud and cheerful duck and the older man. Leaning over the bar casually, he asked the bartender, "Hey, give me whatever's on the house." with a nonchalant grin.

                                                  Crimson Cowl

The crow pulled his trench coat farther over his face. "Come on, why are there so many heroes here tonight? ugh." Distraction time.

Grabbing his drink, Jigsaw walked up to the trash can at the far end of the room. Throwing his puzzle into it, he then put the beer down and entered the restroom.

                                                    DarkwingPsycho

Jacob normally didn't accept drinks from strangers, but a pretty face had always been his weakness.  "Don't mind if I do," he said, doing so.  He turned the sweet flavors over in his mouth, then regarded her sideways.  "Hmm, tasty, but not really my style."  He nudged his glass.  "If you're game for bad bourbon, be my guest."

He glanced toward Vincent with disinterest, but then his eyes caught someone familiar behind him.  He looked down the bar toward Darkwing, seeing if he could catch the hero's gaze.

                                                    • Crimson Cowl
                                                      Crimson Cowl

Suddenly, the trash can that Jigsaw hat put his puzzle in exploded, filling the room with garbage and...puzzle pieces?

Jigsaw began climbing out the window in the bathroom.
