Magic Collides

It was the afternoon and it had been a relatively slow day for Max. Not many criminals to catch but when there was...They weren't in the competently professional genre...Max sighed and laid back on the bench he was sitting on in the park "Why must the dark always be the best time for criminals...If only this city had a bit more...Security...But then again, if security took control over this city, it'd be too much law and being limited to things...Which also means a chance for less heroes to step in and get the job done for them...I suppose that wouldn't be a awful lot of fun..." Max rubbed his muzzle and sighed again.

Its at times like these where he wished something of interest could happen...Max's eyes soon widen as his senses turn sharp. Max felt...A heavy sort of energy...This energy definitely didn't belong to a monster or a villain...It almost felt like the aura he would feel from alchemists or other people that experimented with magic back in Zelum...Surely there wasn't someone else from Zelum that would actually be here...Would there? With no time to be wasted, Max sprinted like his life depended on it. Max needed to trace the energy now before it would fade but the big question was...Who did this energy belong to and why did it have a strange linger of...Slightly dark energy but nothing to be concerned of?

    • Malicia Macawber

Nothing to be concerned of, in a manner of speaking.

The 'source' herself had just finished a rather shady exchange in a dark alleyway -- the true definition of 'shady'. Items were passed back and forth in unmarked paper bags and few words were spoken.

Having just parted ways, she continued along her path toward the warehouse district -- her home -- the sensation of unusual magical energy was not mutual. In fact, by this point in time Mal had assumed she was one of the few magical beings in St. Canard, aside from outsiders who came specifically to conduct business with her.

That was why she took zero notice when the fox came sprinting into sight. Just another St. Canardian out for a jog and whatnot.

Max stopped dead in his tracks as he looked around him for the source as he arrived at the docks but then he turned to one of the warehouses "...So this was where I sensed it...But...Of all the places, how did I never notice energy like this before...I'd been to these types of warehouses countless times..." he thought out loud to himself...Hopefully not getting unwanted attention from someone who could potentially be dangerous if he's on their wrong side. Friends are good...As long as their morals aren't troublesome.

However, why Max looked like he MIGHT stick out like a regular St.Canardian at this point, his sheathed sword and holstered gun still would give people questions but given the small fame he has been picking up, some people would easily recognise and be okay with Max being armed...He was a hero after all. Even the police didn't seem to mind which was always a bonus.

'I guess I should try and get closer to the energy source...Maybe even figure out just what all of this belongs to...' he thought to himself as he tried to be wary of not raising attention as he approached the warehouse although it may already be too late...

Malicia had entered the warehouse by the side entrance, having high-tailed it straight to business in her work room. If Max could sense specific levels of energy, he would notice the highest and most varied source of it came from this same location.

Inside, Malicia set the paper bag down on a table, and got to work retrieving empty pickle jars from a crate. This was her favourite part of the process -- choosing the best vessel for the newest members of her collection.

Distracted in her hobby, she took no notice of any trespassers who may be wandering the area.

Max peeked out from an alleyway as he saw the door where the source of energy resided in. Sticking low and to the shadows, he slowly began to make his way in. Once he did, he found a place to see what was going on while his visibility was difficult to tell...Unless the lady picked up on his aura. Max looked about and noticed the paper bag had energy oozing out from it but...It felt like there was energy everywhere other than the paper bag...But from where...?

              Malicia Macawber

From the paper bag, she retrieved a neatly wrapped box, which she eagerly unfurled to reveal an orange swirling orb of energy. Its tendrils lashed out at her as she held it to her face to inspect it.

"Truly sublime..." She murmured to nobody in particular, as she placed it into the chosen glass jar.

Then, ever-so-gingerly, she carried it to a row of shelves where many more jars sat, all of them filled with similar orbs of energy. Carefully, she selected a spot, dusting the area and setting the jar down. She stood back for a moment to admire the sight.

Now, to make a price tag...

Max's eyes widen as he saw the orbs '...Just what are these orbs and what could they be for...?' Max soon saw the giant collection and as he was thinking to himself, he moved a bit to get a closer look and accidentally knocked a can on his foot. Uh oh...

She glanced up at the noise and narrowed her eyes.

Then there was silence, and when Max looked up next, the demonness had vanished.

Max slowly raised his head from where he hid and looked about repeatedly in that direction. Holding the handle of his sheathed sword in case of emergency, he looked around him fully once more but wouldn't pull out the blade until he was sure.

"Didn't anyone ever teach you that it's rude to trespass in other people's homes?" Her voice rang out, but it was hard to pinpoint. It seemed to echo from the walls and off the ceiling.

                        Max Wicked

Max looked around him in a circular directions "My apologies for intruding but with energy waves like these, I couldn't help but see what was going on. How do I know you're not going to use these orbs for evil? Magic in the wrong hands can be dangerous...Not saying you're bad at handling them but...I just need to know if you're not using this sort of power to the wrong people..." he said still keeping his guard up. Last thing he needed was to get sent to another world where he could get scorched to death by magic.

"And who exactly gave you the authority to determine what I can and cannot do with my magic?!" Her voice boomed behind him.

The demonness, arms folded across her chest, glowered at the young fox.

"The energy you sense is merely just that: Energy. It is neither good nor evil. Much of what I sell here is neutral in that respect... it depends upon the customer and what they choose to do with that magic."

                            Max Wicked

Max turned around behind him quickly but as he listened to her, he lowered his guard a bit upon hearing it was for anyone "Hm...I see...Then my apologies for barging in but this energy I sensed just seemed...Very out of the ordinary for what I've experienced in St.Canard so far." It appeared clear that maybe Max wasn't a St.Canardian after all but then who was he and where did he come from?

                              Malicia Macawber

"That's because I am no ordinary St. Canardian." She smirked.

"What are you supposed to be anyway?" A motion to the weapons he carried. "Some sort of magic-sniffing enforcer?"

For your sake, let's hope not.

                                Max Wicked

Max thought for a moment but then decided to introduce himself "The name's Max. Max Wicked...I guess you could say I'm like the heroes you see in St.Canard, but...To put things in a simple manner, I'm not from around here. Nor any other city or place here either...Or in fact...The world. I come from another universe that's not of this world." Hopefully saying these things would not get him into trouble or perhaps maybe it might give him some help...If he says the right things...

                                  Malicia Macawber

She didn't seem at all surprised nor doubtful about his claim. "Yes, there do seem to be a few of you other-dimensional types running around it seems."

"I am Malicia Macawber." Might as well introduce herself, it was only polite after all. "I am not native to St. Canard either, but I am certainly of this world."

                                  • Max Wicked
                                    Max Wicked

Max looked down in thought "More than a few huh...." Max looked back at Malicia "I see...But its so bizarre as you're more or less the only person I've seen who appears to have a thing for magic. The rest I've seen are either super powers or the kind that emanate energy."

                                      Malicia Macawber

"Well, didn't you know? This is Normal territory. All of the supernatural and magical beings preside elsewhere." Really, this kid must've been from elsewhere if he didn't know that!

"The Normals here don't practice magic and half of them don't even believe it exists!" She shook her head.

"But now you know so..." A shrug. "You no longer have to go poking around in my stuff."

                                        Max Wicked

Max raised an eyebrow as he noticed this "Hm....But then...What does the magic territory look like exactly? If you're fine with me asking..." he said now curious to learn about the lesser known territory of the world. This could make for some interesting history...

                                        • Malicia Macawber
                                          Malicia Macawber

"It's the unseen world. Filled with ghosts and ghouls, vampires and werewolves... monsters of all sorts." She began ominously.

"It is a society of the supernatural, hidden away and segregated from Normal kind. Small pockets of populations spread throughout the world, in areas where no Normal dares to trespass. Regions of Transylvania, for example, where the Normals and the monsters avoid one another..."

She paused to finish writing something down on a label, and affixed it to the jar she had added to the shelf.

"They are my main customers here. The ones who purchase my spells and talismans."

                                            Max Wicked

Max became interested extremely quickly at the idea of the supernatural...It could even help him find a way to cleanse his curse that he's had ever since the one nightmarish night he witnessed in Zelum...A bloodbath that cost the life of a whole village...But that story was for another time.

Max decided to throw in two questions "First of all....Where can I find this supernatural land and secondly...Exactly what type of wares do you sell here...They could prove to be of some aid to me..." Hopefully these were not second hand spells and talismans...Last thing Max needed was a last minute disaster scenario.

She threw her head back and laughed loudly.

"You honestly think you, an outsider, could just prance into monster territory and expect them to open you with welcome arms?! They would probably try to blast you into a smudge!"

To his second question however, she could be of more assistance.

"It depends, what kind of spells are you looking for?"

                                                Max Wicked

Max gave Malicia a serious look "If you know its a dumb idea to go there when I look fine then have you wondered what reason I might actually have for going there?" he was going to have to be extremely careful with his next words if he didn't want to expose his secret.

                                                • Malicia Macawber

"You seem to have mistaken me for someone who actually cares." She smirked.

"It doesn't matter what your reasons are; you're an outsider. Our culture is different than others. Whatever solution you are seeking, you are likely not to find it there anyway."

Max frowned a bit and thought to himself. Looks like if he was going to get anywhere with Malicia...He'd need to gain her trust before she could fully understand the situation Max is in with the paranormal. Max's eyes then widen

"Oh! I forgot about the spells you mentioned. I guess I could always do with some form of healing in case of injuries from crime fighting. Or perhaps anything that could provide as a useful tool to help make certain scenarios easier for me?" Hopefully these spells wouldn't be too expensive....He's rich in one world but this one's another story...Unless his coins could bring more value.

Ah, a potential customer. Now we're talking.

"Depends on the scenario." She said. "But I do have some healing salves in stock." Although she had intended for her clientele to be on the other side of the law, she wasn't picky. Money was money, after all.
