Every Move You Make

((Reserved for Jade/Piper and Jacob))

Previously in Duckverse...
Jade suffers from an attack of gravity, falling right into the company of Jacob Mallard. After falling asleep at his dining room table, Jade awakens the following morning and starts plotting her escape.

---

She slept late.

Jade was tightly hugging a pillow, her face pressed against it and a gentle snoring slipping out from around the fabric. Her hair, in its nightmarish length, was splayed in a mess around her.

It was not to last. "Mm..." She shifted and groggily rolled over. Jade opened her eyes, and blinked a couple of times at the invading sunlight.

Then sat up. "Ooop!" Her hands went up to her face, feeling around frantically for her mask.

Still in place.

She let out a sigh of relief, tossing her blanket off only to be greeted by bare legs. "... He took my boots off..."

Jade laughed. He'd removed her boots and not her mask. She swung her legs over the edge of the bed and stood up. Spotting her boots she grabbed them and hastily pulled them on. She knew she was going to have to try and get out of his house somehow... Something told her if she simply asked, he would let her go.

Couldn't hurt to try, right? Besides he knew she had a day job. How could he say no to her only means of honest income?

After a quick shake out of her hair, she opened the door and started to wander around in search of her host. It took a few passes, but she eventually spotted some areas she recognized, and found her way to the kitchen.

"Jacob?" She called, half yawning.

"In here," he responded.  He was sitting on the couch in the living room adjoining the open kitchen/dining room, reading the Audubon Times and drinking yet another mug of coffee.  "There's fresh coffee, if you want," he continued without looking up.  "And spare toiletries."

Jade wandered into the living room, making an 'Ick' face. Clearly she was not a fan of coffee.

"Actually..." She started, clasping her hands behind her back. "I was hoping you could take me back to St. Canard? I have to work tonight."

And she still didn't really trust him to not turn in a bathroom camera and peek at her. Granted, she did not mind nearly as much as she acted, but without a mask... No go.

He eyed her from over the top of the paper.  "Work, huh?"  He folded up the section he'd been reading and sat up straighter to give her his full attention.  "And what about Negaduck?  You said you wanted help..."

"I do!" She said quickly, her hands coming up defensively. "I thought about what you said... About redirecting him." Oh, so she had considered it.

"I can't do that from here. And since rent is due in a couple weeks I need to work..." Grin. "Unless you think I should just work my late night job a bit harder..."

He smirked at her.  "I'll pretend I didn't hear that."  He smoothed out his suit as he stood.  "What are you planning...?  Does he know where you work?  Where you live?"

She gave him a look. "Of course he doesn't know any of that!" She planted her hands on her hips.

"It's not like I hand that information out. I wear a mask for a reason." She tugged at the edge of the fabric just to prove her point.

"And... I don't have a plan. Yet..." Pout.

He chuckled.  "I figured as much, but to his credit there's cunning beneath all of that debauchery.  He may have you followed, for follow you himself.  Especially if he's as hellbent on being rid of you as he seems."

He took his mug to the sink, poured out the remains of the coffee, and set it down.  "It seems foolhardy to return to the city without a plan in place.  It'd be a shame to see your face on the news for something other than theft..."

                    Piper/ Jade

"If he did, then why would he have to come after me when I was out working? Far easier to catch me at home than twenty stories up." Fair point.

She followed behind him into the kitchen. "I think I will be fine. He might be cunning but he strikes me as lazy too. Probably didn't think to follow me until after he knocked me out of the window. The idiot. But hey, lucky me..."

She leaned on the counter and looked up at him, "besides you wouldn't want me to end up homeless. Would you?"

                    • DarkwingPsycho
                      DarkwingPsycho

"Somehow, my dear, I trust your resourcefulness would lead you in a different direction," he replied.  He looked back at her, smiling a little though his eyes were solemn.  Then he sighed.  "Well, I suppose there's nothing to do, then, but return you."

He reached for his keys, which were hanging on the wall near them.  "Although I am afraid we'll have to go through the routine again."  He pulled out a drawer and held out a blindfold.  "I trust you don't need the cuffs..."  A smirk danced across his elongated beak.  "Unless you miss them..."

                        Piper/ Jade

"You have a drawer where you specifically keep blind folds." She smirked. "Do I have more than Negaduck to worry about...?"

Then to his handcuff comment she shook her head gently. "Another time, perhaps. If you're lucky..."

                        • DarkwingPsycho
                          DarkwingPsycho

He flashed her a boyish grin, then fitted the blindfold over her eyes.  "That's not all that's in there..." he said lowly in her ear, referring to the drawer.  Then he took her gently by the upper arm and guided her through the house and out of the front door.  The sound of keys as he locked it, then his hand was back to navigate her to the waiting yellow Jaguar.  He saw that she was inside comfortably before rounding the car and getting in himself.

"You're not from St. Canard, are you?" he questioned offhandedly as he started the engine and began moving down the driveway.

                            Piper/ Jade

She made a motion as though she was looking at him when he spoke in her ear, though it was impossible for her to see through the blindfold.

Jade followed his lead, and settled easily into the car, pulling her hair over her shoulder so that she did not sit on it.

"Now you know I can't answer that... You're digging for information, Jacob." Regardless of how obvious it was.

                              DarkwingPsycho

He chuckled.  "Can you blame me?  Beautiful, mysterious girl falls into my lap, how can I help but be curious?  Especially when Negaduck is involved.

"Besides, it's rather boring to sit in silence, don't you think?  What would you like to talk about?"

                                Piper/ Jade

"You could tell the mysterious and beautiful girl some trade secrets?" Said in total jest and her playful smile supported it.

Even if it was the truth.

"Or you can clue me in to any other good redirect subjects you know?"

                                • DarkwingPsycho
                                  DarkwingPsycho

"I don't know much about Negaduck," he replied truthfully.  "Other than that he's a loose cannon with a rather large ego and underdeveloped frontal cortex.  I'm sure he's made a lot of enemies.  What do you know about him?"

                                  • Piper/ Jade
                                    Piper/ Jade

"Pretty much what you said, and that he likes to make suggestive comments about rods." Yep, she hadn't missed it, simply refused to acknowledge it.

She sat back, knowing she was in for a bit of a ride. "I'll do some poking around I suppose. I'd rather not use someone with arresting power like Darkwing... Could potentially backfire." She was just thinking out loud now.

She started twisting her hair around her finger-- even blindfolded, she maintained her mannerisms.

                                      DarkwingPsycho

                                      He raised a brow.  Rods?

"Yes, that's true..."  His thoughts moved to Malicia again, and he wondered whether or not to involve the demoness.  He knew she'd leap at the chance to enrage the public enemy.  Perhaps she wouldn't mind the name drop if he kept it subtle enough.  She might not want anyone else to know she was in cahoots with a SHUSH agent.  "You know...there may be someone.  She was recently on the news in conjunction with Negaduck, and I don't think they get along, to put it mildly.  Hair that resembles fire, tan feathers, wears a green dress...?"

                                        Piper/ Jade

"I.... Don't have a TV..." Embarrassed little smile, but she couldn't really afford it. She normally watched Sam's tv.

"But I can look into it. Thank you." She said, stretching a bit. No sense in going on over something neither of them really had a plan for.

She settled once more, falling silent as her thoughts wandered. This was going to take some time... Jacob wasn't very forthcoming with information, especially about himself but...

                                        Eh.

"So, gonna watch for another chance to catch me?" She teased.

                                          DarkwingPsycho

"Hmm," he responded.  "It depends...do you want to be caught?"  His voice revealed that he was teasing her back, although his mind was half elsewhere.

                                            Piper/ Jade

"By you?" She asked. "Mmm... Maaaaaybe." She drawled happily. "If you bring the cuffs." She added, looking over at him with a smirk despite the blindfold.

"I am guessing you like playing the hero more than the villain... Am I right?"

                                            • DarkwingPsycho
                                              DarkwingPsycho

"Well, I rejoined SHUSH instead of FOWL after my return, didn't I?" he replied smoothly.  "And I always have a set of cuffs on me..."

He made a gentle turn as they moved out of the mountains and merged onto the highway.  "Speaking of FOWL, I'm surprised they haven't tried to recruit you.  Not that you'd look good in one of those egg suits..."

                                              • Piper/ Jade
                                                Piper/ Jade

"I met a FOWL agent not too long ago." She admitted. "He didn't try to recruit me, but seemed to have fun stealing with me."

Then she shrugged. "I would turn them down anyway. I tend to work better on my own. Too many cooks spoil the soup and all."

After a pause she smiled. "You're the first SHUSH agent I have met. Not ton heavy of a presence to the criminal side." Oooo dems fighting words.

                                                • DarkwingPsycho
                                                  DarkwingPsycho

She missed the brief, dark expression that passed over his face.

                                                  "Indeed..."

Then, after her last statement, the carefree bounce was back in his tone.  "Is that so?  Well, we generally leave that up to the politicians.  I hope I haven't too badly soured the visionary pinnacle of good that is SHUSH."  Sarcasm was one of his finer qualities.

                                                  • Piper/ Jade
                                                    Piper/ Jade

"Mm..." She tapped her chin lightly. "Really, it's all the same song and dance, just different teams."

It was a very simplistic explanation of a highly complex concept. But she was not wrong... Especially from her very neutral standpoint.

"But you... You sound like you play both sides to tip the odds in your favor. Pragmatic to say the least. Although I do question whether it is more about you than SHUSH... It's a lot of risk, and most people in my experience wouldn't take that risk without some kind of very good prize." Way to go deep there.

"Or it could just be for the chance to undress women."

                                                    • DarkwingPsycho
                                                      DarkwingPsycho

"Maybe both," he said slyly, though truthfully it was less about the latter.  He'd lost too much to see the fun in those types of pursuits anymore.  That didn't stop him from using his charm when he needed to, though.  And he was damn good at it.  "Although I don't really need SHUSH for that...  What do you suppose my 'very good prize' is?"
