Curmudgeonous Conflicts

(Reserved for Lilly and Piper at current time.)

It was one of their busier nights. New club, new acts, new atmosphere… word spread fast among the city and before anyone knew it, Querido Quetzal had become a veritable hot spot.

Piper, though slightly overwhelmed, was working hard to keep up with the demands of patrons and employers. She was not doing too bad… mostly just carrying full trays of drinks, or handing Celia things at the bar for mixing. All well within her scope of knowledge and ability. It was hard not to get caught up in the excited— albeit mellow fun of the club, but having orders tossed at you randomly kept Piper’s attention fully on work.

A blessing and a curse.

At the present she was dropping off a small stack of napkins… for some reason people always seemed to need napkins… They went through them like water. Baffling to say the least, but a delivery she was happy to make since it was absolutely easy to do.

“Excuse me” she said pleasantly, swerving around a rather robust gentle-dog. “Pardon…” she said, once again twisting to slip past a couple head for the dance floor. Finally reaching the stable full of customer’s who had made the request, she placed the stack on their table, shot them a delighted smile. “Here you folks are! I hope you are enjoying yourselves!”

Sigh of relief. Task complete! Level up… +400 exps.

It certainly wasn't the party-club atmosphere of Lago Lagarto, the customers who came here were here to wine and dine and relax while the girls took care of the entertainment. Watchers rather than doers, as it were.

Still, there was a dance-floor and it was never empty of the more restless couples. Things were working well and Oz was absolutely delighted. Doubly so because he had managed to press-gang a few performers he'd really, really wanted.

His targeted clientele tended to have heavy wallets, and Oz was oh so happy to lighten the burden with expensive food, drink, and a show you'd keep coming back for.

The people at the table laughed and nodded in response to her smile. Yes yes, everything is excellent.

"Hey girl," another customer called from closer to the bar.

Piper’s eyes darted, looking around. Ah? One last smile to the tableful and she turned to pinpoint exactly who was calling for her… somehow she knew just by the tone that it was her. Her ear had grown accustomed to it…

She spotted the customer, and once more made her way back towards the bar. Her only delay was to let some people pass— oh I hope you are having a lovely time, please go ahead— before finally reaching her second destination.

“Hello!” she greeted with that charming smile of her’s. “How can I help you?”

"You can help me by getting me another steak," the doberman groused. "A better one. What is this? This is disgusting."

Oh come on, that's a little harsh, isn't it?

"Take it back and get me another."

          • Piper/ Jade

Rude, yes, but Piper knew better than to argue it. Kill them with kindness— compliance in this situation would be a lot less costly to the establishment.

“Of course!” she supplied cheerfully, reaching over to take his plate from him. “Was there anything in particular you did not care for so I can ask the kitchen to leave it out? Or perhaps a different done-ness to cook it to?”

May as well adjust the order while she was still here, and save annoying him by coming back to ask after going to the kitchen.

              Clever girl.

"How should I know? What am I paying your chefs for? Just tell him to fix the mess he made." Perhaps it was the alcohol combined with natural rudeness, but the dog seemed to have no patience whatsoever for what was happening. Lord knows why he came here if he wasn't willing to relax. "Hurry it up!"

“Very well sir. I apologize for the trouble.” A final smile and she turned easily on heel to take the rejected food back towards the kitchen.

Her glanced toward the bar, trying to catch Celia’s eye and nod a warning that there was a bit of a rude customer. In any event, Piper pushed open the door to the kitchen and disappeared through it in order to relay the message to the cooking staff and have a new steak prepared.

If she was not needed in the kitchen, she would return to the bar to help Celia out once more.

She was not needed in the kitchen, which was a bit of a disadvantage because the minute she was out of the kitchen, the dog would call her over again, apparently ignoring any of the nearer waitresses, to demand another drink. And another. A clean glass. Napkins. And a dozen other needlessly fiddly things he was unhappy about that day.

"What is the point, eh? Expensive place like this and none of you can get anything right?"

Her tolerance was pretty amazing. Each request was met with a smile and immediate compliance. Though she eyed the empty drinks… she wondered what the cut off was supposed to be. Unfortunately it was impossible for her to nab any extra help since it was simply too busy.

“Again I apologize.” she said in a friendly manner, placing the napkins on his table— not that he needed them right this second. “If you can pardon me for just one moment, I will go check on your steak.”

Anything to step away from him for a moment.

Grumble mumble. Waving her away irritably, he proceeded to forget her existence as his phone rang.

Whoever was on the end of the line quickly got an angry earful. Not a happy camper, this man.

Happy to get away from the doberman again, Piper took her time in the kitchen. Garnishes were all that was left, so sadly… her reprieve was short.

Although not her job— there was waiting staff, Piper decided it best to take the plate herself. Why make someone else have to deal with the grumpy gus after all? She scooped up the still warm, wonderful smelling dish and hoped to anything above that was listening, that he would not complain again.

She stepped out of the kitchen and made a beeline for his table. Seeing as he was on the phone, she simply remained silent and placed the new order in front of him along with a new set of silverware.

                        There, that should do!

It was his own fault, waving his arm around like that while on the phone.

He took bumping his arm into Piper badly. And somehow as being her fault.

Abandoning the phone completely, he snarled.

"What are you DOING? If you can't be USEFUL at least keep out of my way. Do you even know how to do your job?"

                          Hey now...

"Or are you just here to take up space?!"

                          • Piper/ Jade
                            Piper/ Jade

She stumbled back a bit, not having expected either the bump with his arm, or his following reaction.

Apology fell dead on her lips. Wait a minute now, I have done nothing BUT help you since you first called me over! She knew she had a right to get angry back— but it was not in her to flip off the handle like that. And in this case, she was nearly certain it would make the situation worse.

“O-Okay..” she said, her hands coming up in what was clearly a sign for him to calm down and back off. “If you could please lower your voice…”

Get him to settle. Then we can apologize and things will be okay.

It wasn’t like I stabbed you with your steak knife or anything…

A pair of eyes had been burning they way into the dog's back for a bit now.

A pair of stylish heels stalked over as his voice got louder.

"Piper, take your break," Celia said, pleasantly enough on the surface, but there was a distinct growl underneath as she got between the two of them. "Back room. -Now-."

Folding her arms, she loomed over the troublemaker.

                              "Is there a problem, -sir-?"

                              • Piper/ Jade
                                Piper/ Jade

Ohthankgodcelia. Piper was able to take a breath once there was a physical barrier between her and the unruly customer. Well, not unruly, but well on his way…okay…Unruly.

She took a step back, wondering if she should just stay and help Celia out, but the tone of that growl told her otherwise. “..o…kay…” she said, sounding small. She turned and headed for the back room, her cheeks burning with embarrassment. Their commotion had, clearly, caught the attention of a few people.

Once in the back room— and somehow managing not to run the whole way, Piper let out a breath and covered her face with her hands.

Frustrated. She’d done everything he had asked and he was still rude! Her mind told her— hey, you didn’t do anything wrong— but that voice was drowned out by the raging, stomping, angry voices saying WHY DIDN’T YOU SPIT IN HIS FOOD?!

There was a tell-tale moisture behind her lashes… so angry she wanted to cry. She hated that feeling because it was so often misunderstood. Not sad. Not scared. Just so angry, and it being such a foreign feeling to her normally cheerful personality.

Breathe through it kid. You’ll be alright.

The thing about break rooms is that anyone on the staff can just walk in. Or in this case, semi-not-really-sure-yet staff.

"Um... are you alright?" a soft voice asked.

Of course she's not alright, what sort of question is that?

Well, in the circumstances, it functioned as a lead-in to finding out exactly why she was not alright, so the obvious question could be excused.

Or, you know, the answer could be yes if the person being asked was trying to be brave. And a liar. A brave liar.

Oops. Did not expect anyone to be back here considering how busy it was.

Well on her way to already feeling better— anger flared and fizzled quickly in her— Piper straightened up and smoothed her hair back. “I’ll be alright… just needed a minute.” she said, making sure to steady her voice.

She still wanted to go punch that guy in the face though. Speaking of, she checked her arm where he’ bumped her to make sure he hadn’t hit her harder than she thought. No marks, good.

Clearing her throat, she glanced over at who had spoken to her… and blinked. Oh… I know you. “You are Oz’s friend right? You were here that day we opened and Mr. Santos came to visit.” She gave a small smile, clearly embarrassed to not actually know her name yet. “I don’t think we had the pleasure. My name is Piper.”

"Oh good!" Lilly Was someone mean? smiled in undisguised relief. "I didn't know your name and wasn't sure how to ask. I'm Lilly. It's a pleasure to meet you, after seeing you around all this time. ... Ah... are you really alright? It's just that Celia looks very angry and I know you two work at the bar together."

                                      Was someone mean? D:

No sense in hiding it then.

“Yes, someone was mean.” Piper confirmed. “But Celia is taking care of it… although… “ Piper glanced to the door, tempted to peek out. “I do hope she can handle that guy.”

…come on. This is Celia we’re talking about.

“Ah… but I am fine. I just needed to calm my temper before I poured a drink over that guy’s head was all.” a smile. Still tempted… “Thank you for asking.”

It was sweet of her to worry, but there was really no need.

"Don't you worry about Celia," Lilly laughed lightly. "She can more than handle herself. And him besides."

Looking more serious, she nodded. "It's alright. Having to run around on people's requests is a thankless job at the best of time. You're certainly holding up much better than some!"

“Oh… but most everyone is so nice.” Piper smiled brightly… it was true. The customers might be flirty, but they usually obeyed limits, and definitely did not cross lines once established. “I think the atmosphere helps, but really, everyone here just wants to have fun…”

Optimistic little thing. Clearly one bad customer was not going to dampen her for long.

“And it has been lovely. The workers are so nice here, and understanding, and helpful…” gush gush gush. Yes Piper, you love your job. She paused, looking at Lilly… “Do you work here? I am always so busy behind the bar I don’t really notice… I know there is an electrician who comes by sometimes too that I have not met yet.”

Maybe. He's always been good at convincing me to do what he wants.

At the mention of the electrician, she brightened up. "That's my cousin.I'm sure you'll meet him before long. He's really very nice."

“Ah…” Piper motioned towards the small table— it was a break room after all. “Would you care to sit with me then? I am still on break for…” she looked at her watch… which was not there. It did not match her outfit after all.

So she glanced around, spying a clock on the wall. “Ten minutes? And what is Mr. Oz--"Hah... Mr. Oz. "-- trying to pull you in for, if you do not mind my asking?” It sounded as if he had a plan.

That was how it worked, right?

But I do HAVE a job.

Side note: "And I'm sure you'll mostly find nice people here. All the girls are very nice."

Oz? Insistent? Never…. Her smile spoke volumes though. Piper was pretty obedient to her boss so he rarely had to insist with her… but she’d witnessed her fair share of his pleading. Especially with Celia.

“A performer?” Piper asked, settling down in a chair herself. “Oh that must be exciting, and if Mr. Oz wants you, you must be good! Oh it would be wonderful to see you on stage!” Hey wait a minute, don’t play the devil's advocate— and you don’t even know what she does you goof.

“What sort of singing and dancing?” Piper asked excitedly.

"And... that's very kind of you but I'm quite sure Oz can find someone better and is only doing this to show how stubborn he is."
