Plants, decisions and a whole lot of confusion.

Bushroot goes on a nightly raid for supplies and bumps into trouble, Harmonizer has to choose between duty and friendship, Darkwing is confused.

((OOC: Let Bushroot go first.))

    • Dr. Reginald Bushroot
      Dr. Reginald Bushroot

Ooo, who knew St. Canard had the best glass emporium around. All formed into the loveliest tubes, shapeliest flasks, and quite outrageous looking beakers… at least in the section Dr. Bushroot was currently standing in.

Clad in an ankle-length Holmes-ian trench coat, the finest felt Noir hat, and a thick emerald wool scarf. From a distance, or even in a crowd, Bushroot looked almost “normal,” which did wonders for his esteem these days. No hunching or muttering. He was simply ignored with the garb on.

Bushy walked down the section, collecting a few of each item on display, mostly vials of varying length.

It was just about dawn, the shop hadn’t quite opened yet, and Bushroot was about to make his getaway.

Little did he know he was not alone.

      • Harmonizer
        Harmonizer

Been a rather dull night. Not a crime to be seen. And no, that wasn't the lyrics to that song. Harmonizer was about to bag it and call it a day, and spend the whole day sleeping... again, when her sharp ears caught a break-in.

Not more than two miles away. She listened closely again to be sure. Seemed to be coming from the glass emporium...

Perhaps it wasn't such a boring night after all. Quickly, she set off for the scene of crime. Someone else was going around as well, right in her path to the glass emporium... probably another hero.

Darkwing was scouting for crime as usual. It had been one of those slow long nights again with very little crime. All he had managed to stop was a few purse snatchers but as the night went on there was hardly anyone about. Maybe the return of some super villains had kept people in.

He turned around a corner to see someone in the glass emporium through the window. It was after hours so no one should have been in the store. Maybe he better have a closer look.

          • Dr. Reginald Bushroot

Bushroot inspected the glass as best he could in the dim light. He was pleased with the quality.

            So pleased in fact…

Reaching into a pocket the mutant pulled out a small roll of bills. Not much, but definitely enough cash to cover half the delicate items he had collected.

There were several small drawers next to the cash register, Bushy made his way over and into the first one that opened, he dropped the money.

As he tried his best to quietly close the drawer, he heard some rustling from the outside.

            Maybe he oughta get moving.

            • Harmonizer
              Harmonizer

Definitely sounded like a break-in. Harmonizer was closing in to the store as she ran across the buildings as fast as she could. Not too far off now.

She stopped by the last building overlooking the glass emporium, noticing Darkwing snooping around. Someone else was inside the place, so she couldn't have been mistaken. Maybe, like her, he'd come to investigate. She brightened up upon noticing the hero, that she didn't stop to think the talon-like footsteps inside the store sounded very familiar.

              "'Ey, Darkweeng!"

              Harmonizer, master of silence.

Darkwing jumped a little from being startled not expecting someone to see him. He didn't see her coming since he was busy watching through the window at the moment.

"Argh. Could you keep it down?" He grumbled. "You probably alerted whoever is breaking in."

                Master of silence indeed.

                • Dr. Reginald Bushroot
                  Dr. Reginald Bushroot

Bushroot scuttled along the main door as fast as he could. Hearing not one but two voices outside meant trouble; outnumbering trouble.

His fears were only compounded when something hit the back of his head, sent the vials flying, and landed Bushy face-first to the tiled floor; covered by his apparel.

By a stroke of luck the vials were not damaged and were now resting in a bag full of packing peanuts a few feet away. But for the botanist, there were more important things to worry about.

                  • Harmonizer
                    Harmonizer

Harmonizer was about to say something to the masked vigilante, but whoever was in the store fell with a crash as he neared the main door.

She immediately pushed past Darkwing and walked over to the window of the main door to glance in, readying herself in case something happened.

Nothing did... but then her eyes fell on the floor where the mutant plant duck had fallen, and her eyes widened.

                    Wait a minute... "Reggie?"

                    • Drake Mallard
                      Drake Mallard

"Bushroot!" Darkwing exclaimed before going to look for where the villain had broken in. He wondered what the plant duck was up to and if he brought along any bad botanical behemoths with him that could cause some trouble.

He armed himself with the gas gun to ready himself as he found a way in. He knew what Bushroot was compatible of. Plus, with the amount of glass in this store, it could easily turn into an ouchy sharpy kind of situation.

                        Dr. Reginald Bushroot

                        "Darkwing? Harmoni-"

He stood himself up, adjusting his hat, looking around as he did so. The door was not too far away, neither was the bag... although... considering the ease with which he could flee, Bushroot played coy.

"-err, um... I'll just stand here... don't mind me."

Bushroot raised his leafy hands as he backed himself slowly towards the door. It was so dark that only those used to dim light could notice... which definitely wasn't helping him here.

                        • Harmonizer
                          Harmonizer

Even if Harmonizer wasn't used to dim lighting (which she was), her sharp hearing could pick up on his retreating footsteps. Her face darkened and she stormed to the door, right past Darkwing again, intercepting the plant duck's escape route. Unlike the hero, she wasn't cautious with her entry, neither was she taking Bushroot down immediately, like she always did to the common criminal.

                          She just started scolding him.

"I told you not to commit any crimes with zese!" Poking him in the chest as she glared at him. "'Ad you even been leestening?"

She was mad, but mostly disappointed.

                            Drake Mallard

"You...You know him?" Darkwing sounded surprised that Harmonizer knew about Bushroot. Not to mention the fact she just walked up and started scolding the plant duck.

But the surprise didn't last long. Now he grew a bit annoyed.

"Alright, Bushroot! The game is up! Surrender now! I know you're up to no good!"

                            • Dr. Reginald Bushroot
                              Dr. Reginald Bushroot

"Hold on! I want to make this as clear as a crystal geyser... this, is not, a robbery."

He braced for a response, flinching and all, but on hearing nothing of significance, he continued.

"...over there in third drawer by the cash register, I left some money to cover the glass resting in that packing bag over here, which I should mention, I was not stealing... I am buying."

Hands still raised, Bushroot swiveled them back and forth, pointing as he talked.

There was some confusion on display, almost in all three of them. The mutant simply continued pointing in the direction of register, slightly.

                              • Harmonizer
                                Harmonizer

It took a while for that to register in Harmonizer's mind, since she was still furious and was about to continue ranting at Bushroot.

"You... paid?" she glanced at him, still frowning a bit. "You know zis shop ees closed, right?"

Because he was still breaking in, even if he sidn't steal. Normally Harmonizer had no problems about that, but the law seems to care about that... and she was trying to...

Still, she went over to where Bushroot indicated, somehow not mindful of what dangers it might pose in there, and glanced through the drawer, eventually pulling out a small roll of money. "You mean, zis?"

Doesn't look enough to cover that bag of glass equipment lying by the box of peanuts... but then again, she never shopped for glassware before.

                                • Drake Mallard
                                  Drake Mallard

"Paid? I'll believe that when pigs fly!" Darkwing protested. He didn't believe a word of it course. How could he? He and Bushroot had fought before. He was sure the glassware was for some evil scheme. Why would a villain pay? That didn't make sense to him.

Even worse, once again Harmonizer was stealing his thunder. He can handle the plant duck just fine.

                                  Annoyance levels rising...

                                  • Dr. Reginald Bushroot
                                    Dr. Reginald Bushroot

“Alright… it’s half… give the pig half a wing!” he scoffed, suddenly realizing that sounded more insulting than it should have.

“I mean… Spike broke a few of my vials, I was getting more… maybe one too many but, just look at the craftsmanship.” Bushroot lowered his hands slightly to point out the surrounding glasswork, which, did prove to look well made… almost too well made.

This was going nowhere, and fast. The plant mutant raised his leafy hands back up and bowed his head, feeling the inevitable arrest, or pun, to be hurled out any second.

                                    • Harmonizer
                                      Harmonizer

Couldn't deny... glassware looked well crafted. Really shiny.

Harmonizer glanced back at Bushroot. He looked nervous... and technically, he didn't really steal... okay, okay, he did. At least half of them. But... they couldn't arrest him for that!

"Just put 'alf of them back," she suggested. "Or pay eet all een full." She held up the sack of stolen goods, glancing into it, frowning a little. "I'm quite sure you don't need all of zis, Reg."

She was clearly letting her emotions get the better of her judgement.
