Acts of Venice (Reserved RP)

Like Gemini's ad had said, the flight, hotel, and food, and all other expenses had been all paid for the week so far. It was a nice hotel near the docks. The recruits for the mission had the freedom to take in any tourism and sights they wanted to see.

Gemini could often be seen in the morning partaking of the free breakfast. She wasn't avoiding the others and would give a smile and hearty wave if she ran into them them throughout the day. However, she was also clearly doing her own thing the last few days.

As the fifth day came around Gemini gave out a message to everyone there would be a meeting with details that morning for that the mission that night. The location of the meeting given was at the same hotel everyone was staying in but on the highest floor.

Right at the meeting time Gemini had the hotel door propped open, the door itself hinged to turn inside the room. On the dresser long in the room was a spread of breakfast food that put the food at the hotel to shame. There was an italian breakfast torte, along with easier to grab fruit filled pastries. All looked freshly baked. There was coffee on in the small coffee machine the hotel provided. There was also a pitcher or orange juice.

On the far side of the room was a free standing white marker board with what looked like the beginnings of a map drawn on it. There were also some manila folders on the bedside stand.

The whiteboard did have some pictures held up in the corner by magnets. They appeared to be x-rays of a building. The only picture that was not an x-ray was of a hallway that looked like it was in an abandoned old hospital. In the picture was a white standing smudge that almost looked like a humanoid figure.

The curtains the window if the room were wide open. The view was of the docks and an island in the distance. The striking part of the view was the old clock tower on the island. The hands could barely be seen. Despite how dilapidated the old tower was the hands appeared to be on the right time.

Gemini was in the bathroom at the mirror with the door there wide open. She looked as though she had something in her eye and was trying to wipe it out with one hand while the other was holding her phone to her head. She was speaking in italian over the phone. The gist of it sounded like she was making plans to meet with someone the next day.

((Just so ya'll know a little later on part of the group is going to split off and be in a separate thread later on to be less confusing as they go on a different part of the mission.))

During the first few days, Jacob mostly spent time with Drake, taking in the sights, eating the best cuisine, and regaling the younger man with stories of his SHUSH days.  It was better than spending time missing Piper, and it was nice to have some bonding time with his pseudo-son.  Jacob was also sure to point out all of the best places in Venice to take a date, should Drake ever want to come back with a lady friend.

On the morning of the meeting, the SHUSH agent strode into the room and paused - hearing Gemini - before helping himself to some coffee and moving toward the window to admire the view until the others showed up.

      • Harmonizer
        Harmonizer

Harmonizer was the next to enter, grinning at something on her phone. It was a text from Bushroot, and she promptly sent back another text to reply to him.

She had enjoyed Venice immensely. It had been a while since she had returned, and while finding out an old foe of hers had left the city a while ago was slightly worrying, it had lifted her mood considerably. What might have been days of watching her back turned to days of fun and just... indulging herself. She climbed monuments, dived into moats, tried new food, danced to the music of some street musicians, and even met up with a few old friends of hers. She spotted Jacob and Drake from time to time, and would make herself known by yelling at them and waving her arms enthusiastically, scaring people near her, although she never did approach them, content with being by herself.

Seeing Jacob in the hotel room, she greeted him cheerfully and put her phone away.

"'Ow's Venice? Ze both of you seem to be 'aving fun! Where's Drake?"

She sat down on a chair and tilted her head to the side towards Gemini curiously.

        • Feliciana Carioca-Pistoles
          Feliciana Carioca-Pistoles

The blue jay spent the first few days roaming around, admiring everything she saw as she was trying to re-learn her own culture. It had been over a decade since she's been in her home country, and until now she didn't realize that she ever did miss it.

          -

Sure, it was a different city than the one she was born and spent the first five years of her life in, but Italy is Italy, no matter what city you're in. She wanted to visit the place where her grandparents were buried, but she was too afraid of running into certain people so she decided against it.

          -

She even spent some time with Harmonizer dancing in the streets and shopping!

          -

She was late by a few minutes, but it wasn't her fault!

          -

...She just has zero sense of direction. She got lost frequently due to that. It never bothered her though.

          -

Finally finding the right room, she burst through the doors cheerfully. "Ciao, everyone~! I was on my way here, but then I saw some kids having trouble playing their instruments so I helped them out and we all danced and played!"

          -

"How was everyone's first few days?"

Dr. Mallard spent the first few days exploring the city since he had never been to this place before. He took in the sights, did a little shopping, sampled the food, took a gondola, and also did some people watching after finding a good view.

Occasionally, he tagged along with the other two Mallards or whoever he might have spotted that day.

"Good morning, Agent Mallard. I take it Drake is still indisposed at the moment?" He greeted when he entered the meeting on the fifth day. He helped himself to some coffee and pastries once he spotted them. When Harm entered the room he greeted her as well. "Good morning, Harmonizer. I hope you've been keeping out of trouble. At least, for this morning." He recalled seeing her dive into the canal one day. Then greeted Feliciana as she came in. "Good morning." Then to her question. "I've had a wonderful time so far."

After the greetings and some chats, he went to the whiteboard since pictures had caught his interest.

"Buon giorno. Come stanno gli altri--è caffè quello?" Drake's attention was immediately pulled away from greeting the others who were already in the room, and towards the coffee. Fashionably late, and fashionably disheveled, Drake's hair had a freshly styled look that was already becoming raffishly tousled. His suit was in SHUSH-appropriate grey, but he wore it over a black shirt that was unbuttoned at the throat with no tie, and an azure pocket square casually but neatly tucked in his jacket's breast pocket.

"I lost track of time while in the hotel gym," he poured himself a cup of coffee as he said that, less of an apology and more of an explanation. He seemed to work under the assumption that everyone would naturally be interested in what he had been up to, while at the same time, not caring if it didn't interest them. He had enough interest in himself to warrant sharing. "I'm getting worried I'll get chubby, I've been eating ridiculous amounts of food, here." Which was to say, more than a single spartan meal grudgingly consumed per day. Jacob didn't put up with Drake's usual eating habits.

              • Agent Gemini
                Agent Gemini

Gemini gave a nod to Jacob, acknowledging she saw him come in. It sounded like she was wrapping up on her call. When she saw Harmonizer come in she gave a smile.

When Felicia was in Gemini was at the end of her call. Still speaking italian to the caller she confirmed where they were meeting at San Michele tomorrow but at what time could not be heard. She then ended the call and grabbed herself a coffee while everyone else came in.

Gemini took notice to Dr. Mallard looking at some of the information on the whiteboard. She assumed it may have been the hospital pictures that caught his eye. She headed up there already, since almost everyone was there to start explaining the mission in detail. When Drake entered with statements about the food she had to reply.

“Oh yeah, me too. The food has been great. I've been enjoying the authentic Italian food more than the sites. Ha,” Gemini stated, “So… everyone grab what you want to eat and get comfortable. I'm going to try to make this overview not take up too much time. The site the mission is going to be at is the Island of Poveglia. It's really close. You can actually see it out the window here.”

Jacob nodded toward the brunette.  "Miss Harmonizer.  I assume Drake is sleeping in, although knowing the boy it may be more likely he's working out.  And Venice is Venice."  He shrugged.  "Did you have a good time taking in the sights?"

At Feliciana's abrupt entrance, the SHUSH agent started, nearly spilling hot black coffee on his lap.  He turned with a raised brow, then stood once he had composed himself.  "Ah - Miss Carioca-Pistoles.  A pleasure to see you again.  What instruments do you play?"

To Dr. Mallard, Jacob gave the same answer he had given Harmonizer.  He hadn't had much run-in with the psychiatrist, and he found it one again slightly jarring to find himself on a mission with two men identical to his son.  Speaking of which, he smirked when Drake came in and made his excuses.

"Nonsense," he said as Drake sat next to him.  You've got to feed those muscles, boy."

His attention shifted when Gemini began speaking, and then his gaze drifted with everyone else's out of the window toward the appointed island.  "I hope they've cleansed the property there," he remarked.  "The last time I was there the spirits of the old inhabitants were less than pleased to have guests."

                  • Harmonizer
                    Harmonizer

"I 'ad fun too!" Harmonizer grinned at Feliciana. "Venice ees one of my favourite places," she answered Jacob. "There are always so many new things to see and experience!"

She peeked out at Dr. Mallard through her bangs guiltily, although her smile was impish. "No canal-diving today!" she promised.

"Drakee!" she practically sang as she hugged the younger Mallard when he finally showed up. "You were actually eating?? I think you should spend more time with Jacob. Hmm..." she poked his belly teasingly. "Yes I do think you are getting chubby."

She grabbed a snack and sat down on the foot of the bed again to listen to Gemini.

                      Feliciana Carioca-Pistoles

"Glad to hear everyone has been having a good time!"

                      -

Feliciana waved warmly to Jacob. "I'm just glad this time it's under better circumstances!" Unfortunately, her last encounter with the older Mallard wasn't under such good circumstances. "Oh, I play a bunch of instruments! Though, my favorite has to be the umbrella!" How was an umbrella an instrument?

                      -

The blue jay quickly made her way over to Gemini, giving her friend and co-worker a hug. "Grazie again for letting me tag along~ It's been great having a  few days to re-connect with my home country and its culture~"

                      -

Taking a snack, she sat down beside Harmonizer, ready to listen as she cheerfully ate her snack.

"Yes, I did. I've had a wonderful time so far. Aside from witnessing the horror of Miss Harm jumping into the canal. Gave me a scare she did." Dr. Mallard blushed in embarrassment as he answered Jacob's question.

That expression changed when hearing about what sounded like bad eating habits.

"You have to have fuel if you wish to keep those muscles." He said to his twin in a tone that almost sounded like scolding. "You don't look chubby to me."

After taking another snack, he went to join the others on the bed to listen to what Gemini had to say.

                        • Quiverwing Duck
                          Quiverwing Duck

"That's because I'm not chubby, yet, and thank you," Drake said to Dr. Mallard, politely. Slightly less politely, he eyed Harmonizer and said, "That's just wishful thinking on your part. I assure you, having just seen myself naked, I'm still in perfect shape." Why did anyone care about what or how much he ate? It had to be the least interesting aspect of his life. Worst subject. In any case, he stuck with just the black coffee.

Jacob's comment about spirits made Drake quietly remark, "I'm bringing salt along, just in case." He quieted down, then, his attention focused upon Gemini as she outlined the mission.

                            Agent Gemini

Gemini returned Felicia’s hug, “I'm glad you're having a good time. Maybe tomorrow you, Harm and I can have a girls day out.”

Gemini's attention was turned to Jacob's comment. She gestured to some pictures on the board, “Yes! I've taken care of the spirits issue. For the most part. I’ve set up a bunch of purification candles  and crystals in stratigic spots. See, the place we're going for the treasure is a temple that was buried underground. Over the top of it was various things through the years. Some energies from the temple have kinda agitated the spirits. There was concern that going in the temple could direct spirits above to attack, like an immune system. But! That's why we have Harm and the Doctor to distract- well, the main spirit in the hospital while the rest of us are down in the temple. But we'll get to that after everything else.”

“As for the temple itself it has been vandalized a few times near the beginning, making some traps unpredictable. Jacob and I will be keeping an eye out for that. I am also certain the temple is one to Artemis. From x-rays I've gotten from above ground I've analyzed the logistics of some projectile based puzzles we'll be needed Drake's skills for. Felicia and I will also provide any defense needed if traps are set off,” Gemini then paused before adding a little more info.

“This is simple temple treasure run I’ve done many times before in other places.  But, if at anytime I'm incapacitated you will follow Jacob's lead. I've made photocopies of all the hypothetical mapping I've done so everyone will have a copy if we get separated. I never understood the whole, ‘there is only one person that knows how to get out’ garbage,” she added as she picked up a folder to pass out the maps.

“Just keep in mind these are not 100% exact, but based on areas I could scan. Harmonizer, you and the Doc take a copy as well. You'll be above ground in the hospital but in case you need to know what's below you in a particular place. Also- I've marked all the known places electronics and magic just don't work. Same thing with any kind of combustion.”

                            “Any questions so far?”

Jacob raised a brow at Feliciana's statement about the umbrella being her favorite instrument, but he said nothing.  Perhaps it was a language thing.

As Gemini spoke, Jacob nodded along with interest, then he eyed Dr. Mallard and Harmonizer.  He hoped they were up to the task of distracting poltergeists.  He took the maps she passed around and looked it over.  "How accurate would you surmise these are?"  How much could they be trusted in a pinch?

"How long do you anticipate this trek taking?  I assume we'll have long-range communicators."

                              • Harmonizer
                                Harmonizer

Harmonizer continued to be cheeky to Dr Mallard. "I can teach you 'ow to canal-dive eef you want!"

At Gemini's offer, she grinned brightly. "Sure!" And then, to Feliciana, she frantically whispered "What ees zis 'girls day out'?"

She then glanced at Gemini, listening as she laid out the plan. Well, she tried. Her focus was all over the place, especially after she knew what her job was.

She took one of the maps and held it out for Posi to look at as well.

"Do you know much about ze spirit?" she asked Gemini. "I know eet's not malicious but... does eet prefer eef we are friendly or respectful? Does eet play DnD? What pronouns does eet go by? Does 'e prefer gluten-free products? Not zat you 'ave to answer... I want to make sure we're prepared."

                                  Feliciana Carioca-Pistoles

Feliciana smiled happily, giving an excited nod at her co-worker's suggestion. "Ooo, that sounds like tons of fun!"

                                  -

At least she hoped it did. She's only ever hung out with her cousins growing up and they were all boys, and she never had any friends of her own growing up. Weird, right? With how friendly and cheery the blue jay was, one would think she was popular and loved by all!

                                  -

Nope. Long story short- nobody growing up wanted to be her friend because of her magic and the fact she had two dads, but that was people for you- never wanting to understand or befriend those outside the norm. Ever since transferring to America, she has made a ton of friends!

                                  -

"I honestly have no clue," Feliciana whispered her reply. "Though if it means having fun with friends that are girls, then that sounds good enough for me!"

                                  -

She listened to Gemini carefully, taking hold of the map when it was handed to her and began to look over it. "I think we should be friendly and respectful to them regardless." She suggested in her usual chipper tone with a smile to match. "If we show them we mean no harm and are peaceful, then they would see no reason to harm us, right?"
