A Date With The Dark

Darkwing's phone started to ring urgently. One look would tell him that it was Director J. Gander Hooter calling. J. Gander never called Darkwing via phone, preferring to send messages via Flashquack or his supercomputer in the Tower. Perhaps it was something serious. If answered, the director's only words were "In the office. Now.", before the line was cut.

Seemed ominous. And troubling.

However, what greeted the hero when he entered the office was... darkness. Flowers. And a candlelit dinner with two chairs in the middle of the room.

It looked like a very nice dinner.

Sit down?

Darkwing had rushed over to SHUSH thinking it was an emergency since it was unusual for Hooter to call him by phone. He appeared in the doorway after busting it down in a cloud of smoke with his gas gun ready for...

      A candlelight dinner?

"What is going on?" The hero looked completely confused. Was Hooter trying to woo him?

The door opened just then, and J. Gander entered the room with a bottle of wine, beaming when he saw Darkwing.

"You're early! Wonderful. Please, take a seat," he gestured to the candlelit table, as he worked on opening the wine. Soon, the cork gave way with a pop, and the old owl expertly poured it into both glasses without spilling a drop.

"So, how was your day, Darkwing?" he asked rather cheerfully as he idly polished a plate. It was not very uncharacteristic of him to be casual around the hero. What was odd was how excited he looked. Maybe the hero's suspicions were closer than he thought.

"Umm..Fine I guess." Darkwing tugged at his collar as he watched the wine being poured after sitting down. "So..What's the occasion?"

He asked nervously while fearing the answer. This really looked like Hooter was trying to seduce him. Especially, with how excited the older gentleman sounded.

Damn, his good looks. Now he was attracting the elderly!

Almost as if on cue, the door swung open suddenly, and in the doorway stood the most disagreeable-looking horned owl with a casual vest and tie. She made no attempt to hide the fact that she really did not want to be here right now.

"Oh my god, dad. Why do you do this."

Kacia forced herself to walk in the room, eyeing the terribly corny setup before her with a look of distaste.

"This is so disgustingly cliche that it physically hurts me. You should've left out that tacky candle." Lest I set myself on fire with it, she thought inwardly.

Hooter was about to explain, then beamed at the timely arrival of his daughter, and went over to hug her. It was as if he did not hear any of her griping.

"Kacia, sweetheart, I'm so glad you came. I truly appreciate it," he told her, holding her hand, then pulled her over to Darkwing. "Darkwing, I'd like you to meet my daughter, Kacia. Kacia, meet Darkwing, my best freelance agent and confidant. I'm sure you will enjoy each other's company."

He then stood there with his hands folded behind his back, smiling expectantly, waiting for them to shake hands. They were making first contact. He'd done his part, now it was up to the course of nature to take over. Would they accept each other in a familiar territory? Or would it be a fight to the death?

"I didn't know you had a daughter." Darkwing blinked in surprise. He stood up to tip his hat before greeting her. "Hello, Kacia. As your father said, I am Darkwing Duck."

This just got more awkward when he realized this was a blind date.

He cleared his throat and held out a hand for shaking. "Err..Nice to meet you."

Kacia's arms were folded tightly across her chest, glowering at her father as he introduced her. She had told him many times that she was unfit for the whole 'dating' thing, and as she had come to expect from him, he tried to make it happen anyway. A part of her strongly wanted to be as unpleasant as possible to sabotage all of this. Yet, at the same time...

After actually getting a good look at the man she was set up with, Kacia was now more curious to see how this all ended up... purely for her own amusement, of course. With a heavy sigh, she stiffly held out her own hand for him to take. She would behave herself... for now.

                  "Me too, I guess..."

First contact established. Subjects are... neutral towards each other. On to stage three! Solitude in each other's company.

"I'll just... leave you two to talk," he said with a smile as he turned and walked away.

...I said, he turned and walked away.

Hooter blinked and grinned apologetically when he realised he was still standing by the table somewhat awkwardly. He cleared his throat and backed away, giving the two avians two thumbs ups until he reached the door, whereupon he turned and left.

Unbeknownst to them, he also locked the door, just in case. Of course, there was slso the window, but J. Gander trusted Darkwing was too gentlemanly to not flee and leave Kacia to herself.

"So...ummm." Darkwing rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "Are you hungry? Thristy?" He gestured to the wine and food on the table.

Help. I have no idea what I'm doing!

The horned owl's hands met her face and dragged down as she muttered a string of unpleasant words under her breath. Her yellow eyes found the wine after it was pointed out, and she quickly snatched it up, taking a swig straight from the bottle. At least her dad had the foresight to provide booze, it would definitely help Kacia endure this forced date. She didn't even look at Darkwing as she finally found the nerve to address him.

"...you know, you can just spare yourself the embarrassment of all this and just go. You probably have better things to do than force yourself to be in the same room as me for too long."

Well, there went the wine. Guess he was going to have to brave the date sober.

"I'm going to guess your dad set us up because we're both single."  He looked at the floor. "I haven't been on a date in awhile. I have no idea what I'm doing."

Embarrassing. And judging from her response to him he felt he was already messing up.

"Although, if you want me gone I'll leave."

Out the window. Several stories high. That is going to be a long climb down.

                          • Kamkairo
                            Kamkairo

"Probably, because my dad's an idiot who rarely listens to anybody." Kacia returned the wine bottle back onto the table a little more forcefully than necessary. "I haven't been on a date EVER, so how do you think I feel?" She turned to glare at him, yet somehow, it softened much quicker than it normally would. The poor guy didn't seem so willing to be here either, being dragged here by her dad too. Sighing heavily, Kacia rubbed at her temple.

"I don't... exactly want you gone, but it's obvious that this 'date' won't go anywhere. So..." Kacia picked up the wine from the table again, kicked the table over, and held the bottle out to him.

                            "Let's just get trashed."

"Oh boy. And your first one is with me. I'm so sorry." Darkwing eyed the bottle. "Sure why not?"

And soon she would find out just how lightweight the hero was with booze....

After a few drinks he was rather drunk. That nervous wreck he was before was gone and now replaced with a mess who seemed to find everything amusing.

"You know." DW grinned as he looked at a paper he had dug out of a file folder that was on the desk after having climbed onto it to lay across it. "We probably just broke a dozen SHUSH rules. Agent Grizzlikoff will be so mad."

He put on his best grumpy face as he snorted "Too much noodlenutting in here! It not proper SHUSH procedure!" Then he burst out laughing. "We're going to be filling out paperwork for the rest of the night. That bear really loves paperwork. I think he's married to it."

Well... he could've set me up with someone worse, she thought to herself as they shared the bottle of wine between them.

Kacia never drank enough to actually get intoxicated due to her low tolerance to the bitter beverage, and tonight was no exception. However, it was enough to mellow her out into a more relaxed state.

"Screw the rules. Gryzlikoff-drop is the only one who cares about them anyway, that stupid walking shag carpet. He's also so fat I don't even know how he slips through the doorways without breaking them!" Oh, how it felt nice to know that she wasn't the only one who couldn't stand how much of a tight-ass Gryzlikoff was.

"He regularly finds ways to get rid of me despite me helping out with cases here." Darkwing frowns. "He even physically assaults me sometimes."

Then he rolled over on the desk so he was on his belly and could look at her.

"You know. One time he put me through a training course but I think it was an excuse to shoot me. He used live rounds! The nerve!"

He folded his arms and rested his chin on them. "I shouldn't have to follow such strict rules and fill out paperwork just to help someone. So why should I respect him if he won't respect me? In fact, I think your father is the only one who respects me around here. Maybe even the only one in this city that does outside of what little family I have and my sidekick."

"Sounds about right, the fatheaded windbag." Kacia, having had enough of the wine's bitter taste, discarded the half-empty bottle for now and leaned back against the desk Darkwing was perched on. "Why my dad bothers keeping him around is beyond me." She made a strangling gesture with her hands as she continued. "One of these days he's not gonna be able to stop me from turning that schmuck into a throw rug, god I HATE HIM SO MUCH!"

Realizing she was riling herself up, Kacia exhaled heavily, trying to calm herself. "At least you have others, all I have is my dad. I love him and all, but... sometimes he just doesn't listen to me, like with this stupid date thing that I said I didn't want to do in the first place..." She brought her knees to her chest and muttered to herself. "Not like I'd ever be able to give him grandkids..."

Darkwing chuckled a bit. "I think he keeps him around because someone has to do the paperwork."

He tilted his head as he looked at her. "Grandkids?" He then laughed nervously. "Is this what this is about? I guess he picked me because I'm single and come pre-installed with child rearing. "

That might have been risky info to state but he was drunk and his mind was muddled. But, then she was Hooter's daughter so he assumed she wouldn't run off to tell anyone.

The owl scoffed, rolling her eyes. "That's all that fat galoot is good for, honestly." She shifted her position on the floor so she was now facing Darkwing. "Probably... not that it'd work. I highly doubt I'm your type."

Oh man, he already had a kid. It'd be an even worse idea to pair them up now, she could just imagine how much the child would hate her. Lord have mercy on the poor thing.

He rolled back onto his back to stare up at the ceiling.

                                          "We're both lonely aren't we?"

Kacia let out a long sigh, dragging her hands down her face before meeting his eyes again. "Ain't that the truth... Hell, I even feel lonely around my own father, since I barely know him. My mom left him and took me with her when I was three." While that was very personal thing for her to reveal, it was surprisingly not that hard to talk to this guy.

                                              He grinned nervously.

"If we're going to be on a date might as well be somewhere nice and fun. Rather than this office."

"How are you about heights?" He gestured to the window.

Kacia could never imagine having the ego and confidence that he had. In response to his question, she made a dismissive gesture with her hand.

"I got thrown from the top of the bridge last week, and I once jumped off a rollercoaster ten feet off the ground. You tell me."
