Darkwing Duck is the titular character of the famous 90's cartoon show by the same name. He's a vigilante crime-fighter and a full-time dad to his mischievous daughter Gosalyn Mallard.
His official past is unknown, as creator Tad Stones has written at least six different possible origins for the masked mallard.
What we do know is that at the beginning of the pilot episode “Darkly Dawns The Duck” our Protagonist is completely isolated, with no known family or friends. He sleeps in the day and awakes at night to fight small-time criminals.
While dealing with the notorious felon Taurus Bulba, Darkwing rescues 9 year-old Orphan Gosalyn Waddleymeyer. The entire backbone of the series is based on his relationship with Gosalyn, who he adopts as his own daughter.
He also acquires a side-kick named Launchpad McQuack, a former employee of Scrooge McDuck. Later on he meets and falls in love with the criminal sorceress Morgana Macawber and rivals with Duckburg’s hometown hero Gizmoduck. On occasion he is hired by the secret agency S.H.U.S.H to assist on top-secret missions, usually dealing with the criminal organization F.O.W.L.
Darkwing is ruled by his ego. His crime-fighting aspirations are revealed to be purely for fame and glory, as he is easily swept up in the dramatic world of heroism. He hates sharing the spotlight, particularly with other heroes, and it is this exact self-centered behavior that often puts him in mortal peril. While Darkwing is often a tremendous jerk, he does have a kind heart and will always do the right thing… eventually.
As Gosalyn Mallard's father, however, he is incredibly protective and often strives to be a model parent. So much so, that he has on at least one occasion quit his crime-fighting career to become a full-time father to Gosalyn.
Darkwing has proven to be incredibly intelligent and proficient in various areas including chemistry, forensics, martial arts, and tolerating incredible amounts of pain.
There are currently two active Darkwing Duck players on Duckverse:
Gosalyn is the most integral relationship in his life. They both found each other at a time when neither realized they needed the help, and have been inseparable ever since. Their father-daughter bond is the heart of the entire series and Darkwing would sacrifice anything to protect her, including his own life.
When LP and Darkwing first met, the pilot was immediately dismissed as an annoying fanboy. But Launchpad quickly proved himself to be a helpful member of the team and earned his spot as Darkwing's trusty sidekick. Launchpad is incredibly loyal and while not always the brightest, he has saved Darkwing's life on several occasions during their adventures.
The former crook gone good is Darkwing's Paragon of love. When they initially met, their relationship had a Batman-and-Catwoman feel to it, but after Morgana's reformation the two settled into a more domestic relationship. Their romance has hit a few bumps in the road as Darkwing struggles to accept Morgana's “monster” heritage, but the two remain smitten with each other regardless.
